Cleaning up the slack

Dear Moderators, I was just looking through the memberlist, and it seems as though there are are a rediculous amount of people that do not/have not posted.  Would it be prudent to simply delete anyone who has not contributed  at all, in the first, oh lets say, 40 pages?

It just seems they are taking up space and doing nothing.

I think deleted/banned users still show up in the list.

I was actually hoping for a moderator to post here, in order to understand how it works, at least Desu contributed a little

Well, I think space is pretty cheap, and that a user's account takes up approximately no space on the server's database... there's the info in the profile (approx nothing), the avatar (less than 4KB I expect) and some sort of bitmap describing unread threads.

Probably not worth the effort to delete those accounts from the database.

well using your 4kb generaliztion, with appx 2450 accounts (49 pages, 50 per page), 9800 kb.  Ill even make the generous assumption that 450 are active (to make the numbers incredibly easy), thats 8000 kb, 8mb.  I don't know how much it costs for hosting in England, so I couldnt give you an estimate on cost, but still, it seems like some accounts could easily be gotten rid of, since it is incredibly easy to make a new one if needed.

Oh and was Desu right?

Well, it's interesting... I'll bring it up to the other mods.

I'm pretty sure banned users still show up (as in I can think of some users whom I'm pretty sure were banned but still show up).  I dunno about deleted accounts.

I've already asked Daniel (who owns and operates the site) about removingall users with 0 posts. He has said that it costs little to maintain thm and having the forums have 2k+ members is harmlessly impressive.
So I dropped it, it is his money after all
