Well outside of Add/Remove programs and whether or not it can remove it, there are programs that can do it unless you feel comfortable editing your registry.

Thanks, but I uninstalled Windows about a year ago now. GNU/Linux is far simpler to work with.

I've never had to confirm a deletion more than once. And the only time something has never been deleted is when it is in use, so I have no idea what the fuck you were doing.

I was trying to delete C:\Program Files\McAfee. It came pre-installed on my computer and was pissing me off; there was no uninstallation executable. Then Windows decided that it couldn't just delete the folder either.

Linux users can't be bothered to Google things, silly Junker.

Shit I forgot.  Entitled Linux users with their fancy package managers, never having to scour for software or install via some kind of physical media.  Oh wait, that is pretty awesome.

You should try turning it off. It is an antivirus that runs at startup. Jesus you are not bright.

And when it told you it was in use why didn't you try to turn it off instead of pressing uninstall again?

In his defense, McAfee installs 6 or 7 services that don't always have the most indicative names and if one is still running the uninstaller won't complete.  That is why:

I did turn it off. I ended the process in Task Manager as there didn't seem to be any other way to do so. The "file in use" issue was a completely separate one.

What a faggot program. Anyway, if an application isn't doing anything useful, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to delete the files it's using. There should be an equivalent to sudo rm on Windows for people who know what they're doing.

You could always delete processes in Command Prompt.

Or I could delete the entire operating system, which I did because it is evil and made of AIDS.

And you had no idea what you were doing. If you did you would know what processes were running. Did you have a secondary firewall running? Did you have anything to back up the countless programs you were using from them? If you did you'd know what processes to end. Again, you had no idea what you were doing, then windows pwned you in the face. Which is sad.

No, Ubuntu pwned Windows in the face. At that point I had a dual boot set up, so I just deleted the files using Ubuntu.

There is a little clock at the bottom of the screen, and next to are these tiny picture thingies. There are two (2) buttons on the thing that you move the little arrow around the screen with (mouse) Hit the one on the right while on the picture thingy of the process you want to end and then hit the button on the left of the mouse over the word that says "exit."

What if it's used by a process that doesn't have an entry in the system tray?

Yes it is. It also doesn't have an "Exit" option because apparently the people at McAfee want to make it as difficult as possible for you to stop using their product.

Again, that's one of a few processes. Like Norton, or like most other anti-viruses and other complex programs, they have more than one process.

Like I said before, McAfee installs 6-7 services that are usually always running.  You can see their process in Task Manager, but they aren't always clearly named.  Norton and Symantec have become whores at this because they don't want you to remove their products.  Luckily, people bitched enough that the companies made removal tools because they realized the default uninstaller sucks ass.

Why do they put packages in their repositories that don't fucking work? FFmpeg worked fine on Ubuntu 8.10, but now thanks to the geniuses at Debian, libavdevice causes it to fuck up completely. Don't these morons test their binaries before they hand them out to their users?
