Yes, since windows is the most used operating system in the world this statement boils down to "The average person is too stupid to figure out which files they mustn't delete" and considering it was in use by something, you are obviously among those people, congrats.

Nope. I shut down Windows, booted Ubuntu, and could delete it without a problem. By contrast, rebooting Windows just told me there was still something using it. Conclusion: Windows sucks.

Or you fail at using an operating system designed to be usable for all ages.

And people say GNU/Linux is complicated. I only need one command to delete any file on my hard drive; sudo rm. By contrast, Windows likes to be picky about what can and can't be deleted and if there's an application using a file it doesn't even tell you which one.

Yes, so much simpler to figure out the files exact name and filepath, then type in a command telling it to delete that file.

I right click and delete. GUI's shouldn't require code for general use.

That works too if I have permissions to delete the file. So I can use Nautilus to delete any file in my home directory, which is more than can be said for Windows Explorer.

And there are even more third party programs for ending tasks and force deleting files on windows. Your point is moot.

So I can get an OS for free that will delete any file I want out of the box, or pay a couple hundred bucks for one that I need to get a third party app for. Wow, what a tough decision.

Out of the box? Everything for your OS if third party. It doesn't come in a box.

Very little software comes in a box these days; the phrase "out of the box" is still used to mean the basic installation. Most GNU/Linux distributions feature the rm command, as far as I know.

That is something a mac user would say. They like shiny boxes. It gives them shiny powers.

I don't know, something about your programs being designed by someone with a job is nice.

A lot of people who design stuff for linux are people with jobs and do it on the side. Plus people can look at the code and correct it or make it better. It's a good system. A lot of people hate their jobs. There are also people who work for Ubuntu. They just don't make money off of the software.

I take it analogies are not your strong point? I'm pretty sure there is no cow AIDS, and they usually recover from the flu much like humans and are fine to om nom.

What am I doing wrong when it confirms a file deletion six times and then says it can't do it?

I've never had to confirm a deletion more than once. And the only time something has never been deleted is when it is in use, so I have no idea what the fuck you were doing.

I was trying to delete C:\Program Files\McAfee. It came pre-installed on my computer and was pissing me off; there was no uninstallation executable. Then Windows decided that it couldn't just delete the folder either.
