Why do they put packages in their repositories that don't fucking work? FFmpeg worked fine on Ubuntu 8.10, but now thanks to the geniuses at Debian, libavdevice causes it to fuck up completely. Don't these morons test their binaries before they hand them out to their users?

Anyway, FFmpeg works fine now. I had to uninstall all its libraries and compile them all myself, but it works.

What am I doing wrong when it confirms a file deletion six times and then says it can't do it?

FFmpeg is a CLI application to convert between various common and not-so-common video and audio formats. For some reason, the repository version in the latest version of Ubuntu is fucked. I have now managed to get it working by compiling it, along with all of its libraries, myself.

Running it is fine. It just gets way too overexcited about security matters, to the point of not letting me delete files I don't want.

My account was an admin account. It still wouldn't let me delete certain files in system32 and Program Files; it would also decide that a file I hadn't touched for months was somehow in use by an application and couldn't be deleted.

So hard, you open up process manager and stop it, or use a file dependency sniffer. If it wasn't letting you delete a file it was in use.
