Question for Flat Earthers
« on: June 22, 2009, 03:46:51 AM »
I want to preface this post by stating that not for a moment do I believe the earth is flat but, at the same time, nor do I intend to insult or disrespect your beliefs and opinions in any way. The only intent of my posting here is to debate this with you in a mature manner because it is something that I have a keen interest in.

The extent of my belief in the earth being spherical is such that nothing that I read, nor any evidence you provide here would sway my belief an inch. That is, of course, short of seeing the edges of the earth with my own eyes.

I have a couple of questions for you:

1.  If you were personally taken into space and were satisfied that it was genuine and not some sort of governmental fake flight and saw that the earth appeared round, would you change your beliefs?

2.  Is there any footage, or evidence - anything - that would change your opinion in the world being flat, short of actually seeing uncontrovertable evidence with your own eyes? Is there anyone or anything that could convince you?

Genuinely interested in your replies, guys.

Thanks.

1. No. It has already been hypothesised by some of us that there exists some sort of simulator which could create the illusion of travelling to space while not actually doing any such thing.

2. No. If you expect that nothing will sway you an inch from your Round Earth beliefs, why would you expect us to be swayed from our Flat Earth beliefs?

Now, I have a question to ask you. What makes you so firmly believe that the Earth is round?
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

Hi Robosteve, thanks for the reply.

I believe that the earth is round for a few different reasons, none of which you haven't heard before from various different people both on this website and in the general populace. The first of which would be the amount of evidence to suggest it was such as the moon-landings, the images taken from space, the common belief that there are countless other spherical moons and planets in the solar system and many more like this.

Another main reason is that I simply cannot believe that there is a worldwide conspiracy to withold information concerning the earth being flat from the public. I absolutely cannot subsribe to that theory because I find it grossly implausible. I'm of the opinion that another country, perhaps an enemy of the US, would seek to discredit NASA and the US Government by revealing the truth about a FE. The discovery of a Flat Earth would literally be the biggest discovery in the history of modern science, perhaps of all time and the person who makes this known to the world would become one of the fathers of modern science. You'd have to assume that there are people out there who love to be that person.

I realise that FE believers have people who have presented evidence to support your claims (the guy who discovered the Ice Wall etc - his name currently escapes me) but would you agree that the majority of the evidence that you base your beliefs on is theoretical or a hypothesis? We who believe in a round earth have actual physical evidence of moon rocks, photographs from space. It's perfectly fine for you to belive they're faked, but there is definitely evidence to support our beliefs (if you believe the evidence, I mean).

However, having said that, and as I mentioned in my first post, if I saw the edge of the earth with my own eyes I would of course immediately believe in a Flat Earth. I find it a little strange that there seems to be absolutely nothing, no evidence or experience of any kind, that could change your belief to a round earth. Is this strictly true? There is not one thing that can be done to change your mind.

(By the way, I reiterate that I respect your opinion on this and I'm not trying to be argumentative in any way)

FEers believe so strongly that they are right even if they were really taken into space and really saw the curvature of the earth, they would pobably lie about it, call it a conspiracy, or kill themselves. It's sad really.....

Now, I have a question to ask you. What makes you so firmly believe that the Earth is round?

Because if we didn't, this forum wouldn't exist.  Duh.

We're also told that Santa Clause brings presents to good little boys and girls on Christmas Eve.

Yes but thats not science now is it? There is strong evidence of RE, but the evidence of santa claus is the presents under the tree at christmas, where the writing on the tags looks strangely like that of my parents

You have the same evidence proving Santa is real and a Round Earth.....pics, videos, and someone's word and no proof of your own.  The only difference is YOU don't believe Santa is real and comes in your house once a year yet you have not debunked his existence.  YOU don't believe earth is flat yet cannot prove it.

I fail, but at least I don't not jerk off to "cake".

I love the way you FE'rs manage to hijack EVERY SINGLE thread that tends to be atleast a little serious. Every single thread that doesnt aggree with FE gets hijacked within 1-2 pages.

Now, I must point out that you FE'rs have the logic abilities of a 8 year old (no offence ofc.). "What I dont see doesnt excist" just doesnt work with the modern world.

Aaaannd you got your theories about FE and do your best to proove it right, yet you keep failing to proove RE wrong.

Enough said.
