How do you know this???
« on: June 24, 2006, 05:28:35 PM »
Everybody on this forum (that's an FE'er) believes that the "Ice Wall" exists, yet nobody has ever seen it. Nobody has worked for NASA before, and said "they faked photos of earth", so how do you know this? All this crap...how could you possibly know it's true? There's far more evidence that the Earth is a sphere than a flat disc. But honestly, all this stuff has to be thought up. Nice answer to why the government lies about it being a sphere, too: "It's a conspiracy."
he earth is a friggin sphere.

No...hundreds of people (not working or having anything to do with the government) have flown around the world, and not seen an Ice Wall, and arrived right where they started from. The astronauts will tell you the earth is spherical. If you don't trust them, become one yourself. :P (hopefully you know I'm just kidding about that...) And let me ask you one more thing: How come I've seen the ISS from my house? I saw just like I see the stars, moon, and stuff. So they never DID make satellites, huh?

No, they didn't make satellites.  Not everything you see flying across the sky at night is necessarily orbiting the Earth in space.

All right...

But what about the ice wall? Apparently there's police there so anybody who's seen it is dead or in jail. So how do you guys "know" that there's an ice wall???

If you sail far enough south, you encounter ice.  This is well recorded in ships' logs.

This is well-recorded?  By whom?

Quote from: "Wikipedia's article on Antarctica"
The first settlers of Antarctica (the world region situated south of the Antarctic Convergence) were English and American sealers who used to spend a year or more on South Georgia, from 1786 onward.

.....

n00b.

There's ice all around down south. What if the sailors are part of this "conspiracy", too? And also, it's claimed there's a government "Ice Wall Police"? If there is, then they would be killed/captured, correct?

Only if the ships ventured too close to the wall itself; i.e., not for merely approaching an impassable ice field and turning around.

So you're saying, then, that it's not proven that there's an Ice Wall, just in the minds of some people, and that it's only proven there's ice in the south?

He doesn't think an ice wall exists. Like you and me, he thinks Antartica is at the south pole and that there are research facilities on it.

Truth is, there are probably only 3 or 4 people on this entire site that actually believe the earth is flat, and 3 of them almost never post in the 'general' forum. The fourth rarely posts. If you want to see what THEY think, go to the "Flat Earth Believers" forum and read the posts there.

Erasmus is just parroting the model in the FAQ.

The same thing will happen if you sail north.

It's called THE NORTH POLE, AND THE SOUTH POLE. It's big chunks of ice!

What happens if you keep sailing east? what will you encounter? ANOTHER COUNTRY!!! The same goes for east!

If you start sailing in Asia, and keep going east, you'll hit America eventually, and vice verca.

No matter where you go, you'll find another piece of land!

The earth cant be flat if you can keep sailing.

It is possible to start sailing/flying. in California, and keep going west until you get to Delaware! People have sailed/flown around the earth before.

It is also possible to fly west from California and land in Delaware in the FE.

no, it is a function of compas to see if you are sailing east/west, with the middle being magnetic north, and the ice wall being magnetic south (somehow, even though no south pole has been shown), so if you go west or east you would just be makin a concentric circle

The entire outer rim of the FE is the 'south pole'.

It would if the FE model were correct. But since people have been navigating to the south pole for some time now, I think it's clear that the FE model is fatally flawed.

You know, I initially assumed that many people here... the mods like Erasmus, others,  were just playing 'devil's advocate' and actually believed that the world was round. I take that back, I now think that these guys are deluded flat earthers too...

Having a rational discussion with a delusional person is pointless.

On a flat Earth, north would be the dead center of the Earth. South would be the farthest point away from the north pole in any direction so long as it is a straight (STRAIGHT) line. Basically, a line segment drawn from the very center of the Earth (which would represent the North Pole on the Round Earth) to the outer edge of the ice wall's (where the Earth stops and the great beyond begins) two points (starting and ending) would give you the exact positions of the North and South poles on a flat Earth.

Now.

Any time you move perpendicular to the North pole (facing it), you move either West or East depending on which direction you move. If you were to move West forever (non-stop) you would be going in circles. If you were to suddenly stop, the center of the Earth would always be North (since it is a point) and South, if you were facing the North, would always be directly behind you.

Basically, you can go West and East for all eternity. North stops at a certain location (on a round Earth, once you hit the exact north pole, going north from that location would be going south) and South stops at the end of the Earth. It is impossible to go North and South forever on a round Earth as it is impossible to go North and South forever on a flat Earth. The difference, however, is that you cannot continue going south after reaching that farthest point on the ice wall and proceed to be going North. You would presumably fall off the planet.

To sum it up:

You can go East until you hit the exact same location on a Round Earth and a Flat Earth.

You can go West until you hit the exact same location on a Round Earth and a Flat Earth.

You cannot go North until you hit the exact same location on either model. As you pass the North pole, you will begin to go South and by that fact you will no longer be going the same direction.

You cannot go South until you hit the exact same location on either model. On a round Earth, as you pass the South pole you will begin to go North and by that fact you will no longer be going the same direction. On a flat Earth, direction stops at the South pole because that is the end of the planet. There is no direction at that point except moving away from the flat Earth.

Therefore: I can safely say I can go only one direction and hit the same spot on a Round Earth as on a Flat Earth so long as it is not North and South, which would be impossible to do on either model.
