I may not be getting the whole picture but what would you do if i said i was a Jew or a blackman?
I'm expecting some shit from some of you here but please could at least one of you answer seriously.
I'm sure the answers will be very humourous to many of you here and don't get me wrong, I'm not making a stand, i just gotta know for my own sake.

I'd say that racist jokes are acceptable as long as there is no actual hate message. If someone took offense and complained, I'd be much more inclined to delete the post in question.

The actual reason is, usually racism here is meant to be ironic. It is funny because truthfully most people here are about as tolerant as they come. Racism has a place in todays society because it is generally used as a medium for discussion of tolerance and differences in views.

i have no problem with casual racism that stems from a sociological experience. It is indeed a part of life and society. The discussion of race where all are allowed to speak freely using slang and terminology akin to their education and upbringing without fear of ridicule or misunderstanding is welcomed in my book. It does seem though that the underlying theme of some posters comments are genuinely racist in content.
The whole aspect of FES that invites debate and free thinking is indeed a marvellous thing that i guess cannot be too restrictive in free speaking. I do get it most of the time, but i still do wonder, to go back to my original question, what someone jewish or black may think reading some of the stuff printed here. Sometimes the irony is lost on me.

Race is nearly insignificant, I really see it as a non issue. In order for someone to be offended by racism they must think that race matters in some way. This would mean they have some inherent racism in them. (call it nationalism or "cultural heritage" it's still racism just in a different bundle) Words only have power if you give them power. A joke about blacks liking fried chicken and watermelon really doesn't mean much considering the fact that everyone loves fried chicken and watermelon. Blacks are free to make jokes about me being white and in fact I'd expect it.

Athalus was the only actual racist here, and that was probably just him trolling. He was eventually banned for his blatant racism. Serious racism isn't accepted here, and I'm sure if when you get to better know the posters you'll realize most of them are joking. Take proleg for instance, look up oscar wilde, that was his old account.

I'm pretty sure 17 November/Dionysus/Areopagite got banned for racist comments at least once.  I don't think he an Athalus are the same, but it's possible I guess.  But either way he is incredibly racist, not to mention probably a mental ward escapee.

Yes nearly insignificant. Race does determine genes to some point so it does bring out some differences. Blacks tend to be more prone to crimes of passion, but are generally do not have serial killers. Claiming "cultural heritage" to back your racism is just an excuse to claim racial superiority. If you want to be equal you have to accept equality.

A good example of this race issue was shown in a series called "Black and White" I believe. We watched it in my Sociology class and it was about these two families living together and then having the opposite family's race spray painted onto them. The black family was really racist, and they found racism in everything or rather they were always looking for racism. Aner example, the black guy was in white makeup and went to a pro shop(golf store) and was shocked that someone put the shoes he was trying on, onto his feet.

I've been here longer than you and don't know anyone that was banned simply for the use of the word nigger. Real racism is not tolerated, racist jokes kept to a joke thread are no worse than misogyny, the use of puns, dead baby jokes, sexual jokes, or truthfully any other form of humor used by adults. Jokes are a means of bringing taboo subjects to the light of day and allowing open discussion of them. If you can not joke on a subject you can not easily talk about something in a reasoned manner.

Any subject that can not be openly joked about will instantly bring about knee jerk reactions in a debate and keep the debate purely emotional.

Actual racism has no place in the forums hence althalus being repeatedly banned.

We are simply taking advantage of the fact that the mods don't care about racist jokes. I at least like a bit darker humour, like racist or otherwise bigoted humour. I have plenty of friends from other nationalities and religions than my own, and I don't see myself as a racist or a bigot, I just like nigger jokes. I enjoy the freedom this forum gives me from the political correctness required in other areas. If you said you were a jew or black, I wouldn't react very strongly, except for perhaps reassuring you that I don't make nigger jokes in any serious sense.
