Flat Earth Society t-shirt design -- yea or nay?
« on: April 23, 2009, 03:32:06 PM »
After a long delay and far too much time spent revising the same basic design over and over again, I have something I'm pretty happy with.  And if the rest of you are happy with it, I'll go ahead and get some official Flat Earth Society t-shirts printed.  But before I do that, I'd appreciate your input.  Is the design decent?  Any little changes to be made?  To keep costs down, I'm sticking with a single colour print.  I'll give you an approximate breakdown of my hypothetical production costs so you'll know how I came up with the hypothetical price tag.  I'm not planning on making a profit on these, so the price will just be enough to cover my expenses with any accidental profits going toward web hosting fees and upkeep on my solid gold mansion.

The cost per t-shirt for me would be about ?6.00 ($9.00) in smallish batches (10 or so).  That's for a one-colour print on a Fruit of the Loom Super Premium t-shirt.  I've read reviews and that seems to be quite a decent quality shirt -- not a cheapo shirt that will stretch and fall apart the first time you wear it.

Shipping costs would obviously depend on where you live.  Within the UK, it would be about ?2.00.  To the US, more like $7.50 (according to the Royal Mail site).  More than likely, people would pay via Paypal so I'm going to factor in their transaction fee as well.  So, all told, about ?8.50 within the UK and $17.00 in the US.   Shipping to other countries outside of Europe is probably similar to the US costs.  These prices are all approximate and may change (especially international orders if currency rates change), but probably not by much.

Your thoughts?  In case anyone is wondering, the "IN VERITATE VICTORIA" is taken the preface to Samuel Rowbotham's Zetetic Astronomy and means, "Victory in Truth".  I'm taking it on as the Society's official motto, I think.  It has quite a nice ring to it.

It's a good design.

"IN VERITATE VICTORIA" was also the motto of the Universal Zetetic Society which Rowbotham chaired.

I like it. I assume it will be available for no cost for all members that show commitment, such as myself.

At first I didn't like the one color thing, but you know what, I like the simplicity of it. God damn shipping is gouging though, but I would deal with it.

I suppose, we could also bring in Dann and some other Americans in on this, and lower individual cost!!

Well, we live close enough that transporting it from one of us to the other would actually allow us to save money. Also, a good excuse for a meeting of members of FES.

Two questions
What's going to be on the back?
Any way to reduce U.S. shipping costs?

Perhaps have it be made by a second company based in the US?

Tom Bishop has spoken.  The truth is undeniable.

Many people punch people who wear shirts of bands the first people dislike, so any shirt carries an element of risk. I metaphorically came when I saw the FES shirt, though.
No but I'm guess your what? 90? Cause you just so darn mature </sarcasm>

Does this officially confirm the intended resurrection of an international Flat Earth Society with Daniel at the helm?

Awesome t-shirts, by the way.

Yes.  We already have a PO box, phone number, membership certificates, new website (the forums will stay as is, of course), etc.   I'm in the process of writing a press release now.  The wheels are very much in motion.

I think you ought to mention me in your press release Daniel. I am the living embodiment of FES after all...

I don't think advertising that we have a resident whore would necessarily be good publicity... although there's no such thing as bad publicity, I suppose.

Besides, we already have a Middle Eastern national leader who is not gay, and is considered to be dead by most of the world.  Saddam will be in the press release, as will I (I mean, I am the crotch of our savior, for my sake!) and the SHP (to ad legitimacy and help convince people we're not pedos).

Actually, I quoted this yesterday, but somebody deleted my post.  I was just going to quote him to rag on him a bit because it did sound a bit hypocritical of him, but then I saw the hidden part of the message...
