What I don't understand
« on: March 17, 2009, 10:56:02 PM »
Why is it that if you book a flight going west that is more then halfway around the world the most suitable and fastest way to get home is by continuing to go west?

Are the airlines lieing to me when they say I am going west and indeed I am going back east? I find that too hard to believe.

Also, If a conspiracy is to have merit..it has to have a specialist or at least a government employee that comes out and claims that the earth is indeed flat and that everyone is lieing to the public. Why has this yet to happen? Also I am Russian-born and a relative of mine had been in space as according to my father and his grand father...Where was he actually? Hiding in Siberia..? See it doesn't make sense because this is a family member that you can't really say "Must have been lieing to you and your whole family"

Can you..?

Circumnavigation is possible in FET.

Not all government workers are in on the conspiracy, just the top level execs getting all the money.

He was an astronaut, who went to space...he never said anything about the earth being flat..are you suggesting that he too was paid off to lie to his family and that not even on his death bed he would confess the truth?

Smells like bullshit

Even if they threatend to kill his family if he said something.  You are talking about a world wide conspiracy here.

Doubt it.  Especially if he thought they would carry it out.  What would be the point?  He says something on his deathbed.  People think he's lost his mind/senile and the conspiracy kills his family, it lose/lose for him.

Okay but just to clarify, you believe there is 0 percent chance that the earth is indeed round and a 100 percent chance that my uncle was a Russian conspirator?

Also, I didn't read what circumnavigation is but the fact remains...keep going west and you will end up in the same location you started from.

Where exactly is the Icewall, I mean...what habitable countries can view it with a powerful telescope?

If you say the earth is flat, and I find a an open peice of land and point my high powered telescope at it..I would HAVE to see the ice wall, correct?

The point is that there are people of this Earth who don't allow such evil to exist. They stand for what they believe in. They suffer so others might live better. They accomplish the nearly impossible so that other might face difficulties better prepared. They would sacrifice family, friends. everything the Conspiracy could threaten--just to prevent the Conspiracy from benefiting from their evil ways. By now, after hundreds of years, someone should have exposed the Conspiracy. With the Free Press and the Internet, nothing can stop a righteous person against the Conspiracy.

Since your view might be obscured by a higher piece of land in all directions, no, you might not. You must, however, be able to see the summit of many of the high peaks, K-2, Mount Everest, Kilimanjaro, Mount McKinley, and so forth. Since you can't FET would seem to be falsified.

What is more plausible..

That not one single human being outside the "conspiracy" has ever viewed the ice wall with a high powered telescope

OR

The Ice Wall doesn't exist?

If you choose the first one, if you are willing to say something that covers our earth on all sides has never been viewed by a single set of eyes not part of the conspiracy..you have forfeited the right to have an opinion.

Your argument is up there with "Taking a picture of somebody steals their souls"

Obviously nobody believes there is an Ice Wall, please choose another..less stupid approach to your already stupid theory.

Thank you.

This is exactly what I think too, not all humans are greedy selfish beings. Somebody is bound to leak the truth if it was a 100+ years old conspiracy.

Somebody somewhere else (I think it was goldstein) said that the serious FE'ers have a certin type of delusion which they believe they are heros trying to over come a evil government who has hidden the truth from the world. I have to say I believe him, after reading everything on here and their excusses they make when they know they're going to lose an arguement.

Trust me conspiracy theories are fun and all, but when you take something like a government hiding the true geography of the Earth, seriously then it becomes ridiculas.

First, I have to say this. Awww! There really are people who believe that there is goodness in human nature! Protip: There aren't. If there were, we'd live in a Communist utopia by now. Also, people exist who think that air is invisible. That's less cute, it's just stupid. The opacity of air means that you can't see the ice wall. Don't shout abuse, just Google it or ask me what opacity means if you don't know. If you do, take a sticker.

Perhaps such people exist, but they are certainly not who the conspiracy selects for employment.

The good aren't usually always on top, most of the time the more corrupt poeple gain the power. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Personally I believe that all humans have a constant struggle between both sides of themselves, good and bad, but due to stuff like natural selection it puts the more powerful and less cautious people up on top.

Don't believe that everybody is evil just becuase of your delusion.

... The opacity of air means that you can't see the ice wall. ...
Patently false. The amount of air that you can see through clearly is limited, just not as FET would have it. It's the hallmark of pseudoscience to take a real effect and twist it to handle its shortcomings.

On a clear sunlight day At noon, at sea level, how far can you see looking out across an open sea? If the atmosphere became opaque, what color would you see at the horizon? Black? Maybe. White? Maybe. Blue? Never. What color do we see? Blue. FET is once again falsified.

Do you know why the sky is blue? It's sunlight refracting through nitrogen and the atmosphere is opaque in both theories. Please, Gulliver, stop posting. You're making the good REers look bad.

Neither "evil" nor "altruism" exist, so that sentence is absurd.

Let me put it this way. If you had a gun put to your head and given three options, either kill an innocent person, have fun, or refuse altogether and have the gun-handler kill you both, what would you do? Your answer doesn't matter, you'd kill the other person in such a scenario.

Oscar, stop bawwing about semantics. You know what I mean, and so does everybody else.

Yes that's selfishness right there, everbody's sense of self preservation. But that doesn't make you entirly evil, just selfish. You describe the people incharge of the conspiacy in a 100% evil way, that they are so bent on power and money that they don't have any human emotions left. That itself can't even be true.

So are the people incharge of the conspiracy being held at gun point to keep the world in the darkness, or are they truly evil?

There are some people who would do the second option. Hell, there's probably some who'll do the third. But unless a person actually finds themselves in this situation, any answer given is pointless.

People that would choose the second option died out a hell of a long time ago, and people who'd choose the third deserve to, the morons. People have found themselves in such a situation. All choose self-preservation over altruism, because that's the obvious thing.

alright I am a completly new member, but it seems to me that obviously someone must have spilled that the Earth is flat or we would have to Flat Earth Society, there is no ice walls the water flows off the Earth at a very slow rate and as more falls off more is put back into the ocean by the intelligent designer...no I do not beleive any of this but I thought that it would help explain things better weither or not I beleive in it
