What did Galileo get wrong?
« on: December 05, 2008, 12:07:26 PM »
First, sorry if I mangled the name, Im a terrible speller.

Second, what errors did he make that prove the earth is flat?  His studies showed it to be round.

He cannot be part of the conspiracy as a government had him executed for saying that the earth was round and orbited other celestial bodies.
(ie: the sun)

And if nobody answers, it of course goes as another point for RET.

Listening to the FE'ers try to disprove this is like watching a train derailment in slow motion...

(I have no theory, my life is now dedicated to the destruction of the FET)

Galileo was not executed by any government.  He spent the last years of his life under house arrest by the church.

Besides, perhaps FET is a conspiracy too.

It is just the way it is, you understanding it doesn't concern me.

Galileo didn't study the shape of the earth. He was fired from his job and persecuted against because he was trying to teach heliocentricity rather than geocentricity.

The same thing would happen today if an instructor tried to teach something outside of the norm.

galileo had nothing to do with the shape of the earth, he attempted to show to actual orbit of the celestial cosmos.

if i remember right, he also did something with mass and gravity**, proved that same size objects with different weights fall at the same rate.

**: or gravitation, or acceleration by the UA

...which still doesn't explain why gravity decreases with altitude:

Note that gravity decreases relative to distance from the surface of the Earth, not to distance or position relative to celestial objects. Here's a formula:

ga = 9.780327(1+0.0053024sin2a - 0.0000058sin2(2a)) - 3.086 x 10-6h

where a is the latitude and h is the height above sea level (in meters).

Like the sun, the stars are also expanding and contracting their diameter as they spin around the hub every six months.

Somebody has to fix the spelling of Galileo for him, not a knock on him he said he was a bad speller, but can a mod fix it maybe. It physically pains me to look at the title.
