continental drift anyone?

Do you Fe people believe in the system of plate tectonics?  Have you heard of the mid atlantic ridge, or the pacific ridge, which creates new seafloor, which inturn pushes the plates that the continents rest on.  Then you have zones of seafloor reduction, like the pacific ring of fire, where seafloor is destroyed.  The continents drift at a rate that is similar to the growth of your fingernails.

Sometime in the future, the sun will become a red giant and all life on Earth will end.  If that is inevitable, why couldn't the plates eventually slide off the Earth?

if you belived in god, you would know his power would prevent the sun from turning into a red giant, and having hte plates fall off the earth aswell, but he would not do something so stupid as to make a flat earth, so we dont have to worry about the plate falling off ok

The sun will go red in about 14 billion years, and it will take at least a few million years for a plate to slide off the Earth.  If you believed in God and read the Bible, you would realize that the rapture would have come and gone long before we see these events.  
Stars going nova and red are integral parts of life on earth.  Our sun is a third generation star.  All the heavy elements that make up the earth and each one of us were created in stars and shot out into space when they exploded.  It happens and will happen again.

Why would God go to all the effort of creating the rest of the Universe if he didn't put any life out there?

Couldn't he have just made little spotlights like a couple kilometres above the face of the FE to give the same effect?

You're the one that brought up religion.  What happpens in the end is really up to what you believe in.  Don't believe in God, then yea, the plates sliding off the earth or the sun going red would be a crappy way to go...

If we are still stuck on one planet after all that time, knowing that it will eventually happen, we sort of deserve to die out.  All hail Darwin!!

Or right.  We may need to really boost out tech by then, to break through the dome of the sky and escape into whatever is beyond.

Maybe he plans to move us when our sun explodes, or the continents slide off the 'flat earth'....

The currrent theory says the sun ain't going to explode. The sun will run out of hydrogen to burn, and start burning helium and lithium, and shedding its outer layers. The loss in mass will cause it to swell to a radius the size of earth's current orbit. Luckily, the loss in mass will mean the earth will orbit much further out from the sun than it does today, but the sun will then stop burning, and collapse into a dwarf star. The earth will go into deep freeze, and possible spin off into space. Not so great, but at least we won't be blown to smithereens I suppose...

Not blown to smithereens, but roasted as the sun expands well out past the Earth's orbit as it becomes a giant star. It will expand long before contracting into a dwarf.

Dysfunction, irishpeter is claiming that the same loss in mass that results in the expansion of the sun will result in a much greater radius of orbit for the earth, which seems to make sense.

So then the earth will never be consumed by the sun, but it will be become barren and inhospitable all the same. I'm going to be very upset when this happens.
