secret police...

Why, oh why, would there be a secret police to patrol this ice wall?  The united states government cant even patrol the mexico/usa border well enough to keep the mexicans out.  Now, how is the government going to patrol this ice wall?  This ice wall is the largest border ever imagined!  There would be no way to hide this enormous branch of police, guards, or sharks with freakin laser beams attached to their heads.  Who pays these police officers salaries?  Do you think their budget has been reduced since the start of the war on terror?  How do you get hired to get this job, is this job every border guards dream?

Obvious

(a)  People want to cross this border.
(b)  You can cross this border on foot and without cold-weather gear and an icebreaker.

Great comparison.

Hide them from whom?  Ice wall tourists?

Who pays these police officers salaries?

I'm guessing they skim the money from the fake space program.  12 million dollar screwdrivers will pay lots of salaries.

No.

Probably hereditary.

Anyway, now you've got replies.  Can I lock this thread now please?

Maybe that's why we don't have the resources to properly guard our own border.  Maybe it's why the congress has repeatedly funded more remote control aircraft capable of being fitted with weapons, than the military asks for.

Maybe it has to do with why a person disappears every 30 seconds (at least according to TV).

Because it would cost an obscene amount of money, and if it is one thing the Bush Admin hates its spending money.

The Penguins are genetically engineered surveilance tools. Robots specifically designed to replicate a supposed Artic feathered flightless bird. They operate in a similar autonomous swarm fashion to prototype Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) such as the Shadowhawk (look it up).

Actual human guards are only deployed on a criticality adjusted basis - ie. if the Penguins indicate a higher than average threat level (proportional to intruder / ice wall proximity) said sentinels are deployed with orders to exterminate with extreme predjudice.

Yet they keep throwing it out the window. Strange, isn't it? According to your argument, the war in Iraq must be a myth, because it would cost an obscene amount of money, and G. W. Bush hates spending money.

I assume you have not heard about how federal agencies spend $600 on a toilet seat. It would seem that federal agencies are just incredibly stupid, or it indicates that they are channeling money into projects the general public is not aware of.

Actually, Yardstick2006 started it when he tried to make an argument by implying that the US government acts logically. ("Because it would cost an obscene amount of money, and if it is one thing the Bush Admin hates its spending money.")

I have no problem agreeing that the government and its agencies act illogically most of the time, but that kills Yardstick2006's argument just as much as mine, and we're back to the beginning.

So is this global police force funded by the USA alone?  Are these Ice Wall Enforcers all Americans?  Since the United Nations cant agree on anything, and I can't imagine them coordinating a secret group of multi generational, multi national border guards who get along with each other only because of their shared knowledge of the largest conspiracy ever concieved by man.  If you look back to the cold war era, and the attitudes of the two super powers of the time, they were more concerned with showing their power to the rest of the developing world, (ex. space race) than faking photos, working together to guard this border, and many many other reasons why this is impossible.  And yes, this is the largest border ever imagined.  This massive ice wall would have a larger shoreline than all of the continents shorelines combined!

oh, and what happens when they want to retire... Are they killed?  You would figure there would be one disgruntled employee who would sell this story to the globe, or another tabloid paper.

I don't know.

But it's easier to fake photos than to really go into space.

Maybe they really went into space, saw that the Earth was flat, and realized that nobody would believe that they went into space if they came back and said they saw a flat Earth.  So they had to fake the photos.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person on this site to have made that suggestion.

And yes, it's also the least visited.  the U.S.-mexico border has, hm, let's see, California, Texas, and Mexico, among others, directly adjacent.  Not exactly the sort of unpopulated wildnerness you find within hundreds of miles of the edge of the Ice Wall in all directions.

In the same way that I cannot tell you their citizenship since I haven't checked their passports, I also cannot describe to you their policies on retirement.

However, other secret organizations have real people in them that really get old and really retire.  Is the fact that no retired CIA agent has come forth and said, "Yep, we killed Kennedy" evidence that the CIA was not behind the assassination (other evidence aside)?

Possibly... these employees would probably have to be eliminated before they had a chance to go public.

Bear with me for a moment. If we're talking about a military style patrol in an area as wide as the equator on a round earth, surely you would need millions of people? And in an era such as the Cold War, cooperation was not a great feature. So is there an international army held by some extra governmental power?

That's all speculation, what isn't, is that I can understand secret police exist, guarding single islands, installations, even large areas. But the circumfrence of the world? That is another kettle of fish....

Why? How many people do you know who have traveled further south than the southern tips of Africa, Australia or South America? You don't need many people to guard an area if there are not too many people who will ever go there.

What do you think would happen then? Just try it out yourself... call a newspaper of TV channel and tell them that the Earth is flat and you used to be a member of the secret police which guards the ice wall that surrounds the Earth. I think you'll get the same reaction from all of them, and then you'll understand how certain secrets can guard themselves.
