Mars science laboratory (REers only, unless you want to critizize)

Who here can't wait for the MSL? (Mars science laboratory) I hear that they really don't have enough money to do it, but there going to anyways. It is supposed to launch September 2009, and land some time in 2010.
oh so now the moon is in on the conspiracy too?

I haven't heard anything about this.  Sounds interesting but I wouldn't expect it as soon as 2010.
You think that a photograph is indisputable evidence?  Would you like me to show you a photograph of Barack Obama having sex with a gorilla?

BTW, I have noticed that this "quote" button is very helpful...

Why would I need the quote button if you're the only one who's posted?

Oh, an unmanned rover.  Ok, I can see that possibly going 2010.  I think it's still a long shot on how successful it will be though.

Well the phoenix lander made people happy. They wont expect Man on mars until like...2037 was it? But who knows, if things go well, maybe even a little bit earlier.

Sounds very interesting... Some people think there might be a race to the Moon right now to mine the Helium-3.

I know that NASA wants to start making a base on the moon by 2020 and have it done by 2024. (IDK wether they will meet those dead lines) But I never knew about the Helium-3. sounds interesting. I do know that they are planing to have future launches from the moon base to mars in order to mine iron.

I don't think that The MSL will happen quite so soon but it would be pretty freakin cool.Did you know that it would actually be possible to make mars have air and a breathable atmosphere. they would do it by introducing plants and many types of gases into its atmosphere in order to replicate our own.
I hate myself for coming here

They have a serious lack of atmosphere to work with. The actual pressure on mars is not very great and there is little to no magneto-sphere. Without a magnetic shield the planet cannot contain an atmosphere. Everything ends up "blowing away". Or so they say. There are currently "pockets" of "atmosphere" in the southern hemisphere to my knowledge.

Wow! Almost 2Billion dollars for more pictures of Arizona and analysis of rocks. Super...

I'm sure you would if you played with the colour of the broadcast like NASA.

Are duststorms unique to Mars? I assure you pink or rusty skies aren't unheard of in Arizona.

Besides the first images from Mars looked just like Earth. Only rocky. Only later did the red colour come about.

As far as man on the mars. I think the only hard part will be gravity. personally I think the rest will be easier then the moon landing. going 6 months with out gravity is what people in the space station. But IDK if they are going to stay there for long. (unless they are going to start building their base right then and there) so 6 + 6 equals a year with no gravity. now astronauts can get there G forces in every day by laying down on a spinning table that rotates for an hour. (that's one idea) But do you think the artificial gravity is possible?

I think their biggest problem would be getting to Mars.

speaking of moons, mars has such weird moons...Infact, Mar's moons (and other small moons of other planets) are probably just comets captured by the planet's gravity. I think we should call them "dwarf moons" just like we call pluto (and other small planets) dwarf planets

You might have gotten Comets and Asteroids confused. I may be wrong and some actually are Comets. Let me know cause I don't feel like looking it up.

actually scratch that...If they use electroplasma rockets (VASIMR [correct me if it is not called an elecrtoplasma rocket]), they should be able to reach Mars in a few weeks

This isn't true. Almost all celestial bodies have an atmosphere. Even the moon has one.
