How young do you think I am?

You see, the problem I have is that forced indoctrination goes against everything that organized religion stands for, really. Fear, persecution. These are all things commonly referred to as "evil".
How can something be so holy when it does exactly what it says it's against? This was my dilemma for some time. I learned over time to be tolerant of peoples' belief's, but to have them openly pressed upon others is not something that I take lightly. I personally refuse to deny the essence of self for others. I believe in the systematic understanding of the physical world around us through observation, experimentation, argument and debate, and most of all freedom of will. In my own head, because of this, and the gripe I have with forced indoctrination, I cannot compromise the fundamental tenants of my belief.
This is why I am an atheist.
