I wish to move out of this country at some point, largely because it has its head up America's ass.
As soon as I get my degree, I'm also leaving.

Why?

I don't know how you can answer anything other than a yes or no to my question.  Do you wish to move out of your country?

I don't have an opinion on that. There is nothing here that I couldn't find somewhere else; and there's also nothing that compels me to leave. So, I don't wish to move, but I don't not wish it either.

Why?  What makes it a great city?  Do you consider yourself a South African, considering you were born there?

It goes against my values to associate myself too strongly with any particular nation, but if I had to consider myself to be of a particular nationality, then yes, I would consider myself a South African. Also, it's a great city for many reasons, not least its amazing geographical and cultural beauty.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

You bring up a good point here.  Lets throw out the "economic intrest" and insert whatever else you want there.
There are many things I would risk my life for. Whether or not they would be in my country's interests at the time is circumstantial. If I feel my country is fighting for a worthy cause, I support it. Patriotism should not be a default setting. It is not "my country, right or wrong".

Do I think everyone that does not do time in the military doesn't like their country?  Of course not.  That's absurd.  There is something in a few of us that feel the nation's protection is up to us.  But it by no means, means that if you aren't willing to die for it then you don't like your country.  You can be patriotic without military service.
Patriotism means different things to different people. The same goes for the perception of what a nation's "protection" really entails.

Why?
It's cold here. Also, I would like to see as much of the world as possible in the short time I have on it.

Moved from South Africa to England in July '98, and then to Australia in July '99. With my family, of course, as I was only ten years old when we moved here.

America's patriotism brings me back to the 1930s and Italy.

It's not patriotism. America truly is the puppet master of world affairs. The vast majority of foreign leaders are at America's beck and call. America is the controller. America says what goes and who does what. It's a superpower beyond all comprehension. After World War II only America's economy stood strong from the aftermath, and so it received investments from all stratas of the world, ballooning its economy and government to the most powerful and influential entity on earth today.

When it's talked about how America is the best, it really and truly is the most powerful nation on earth. If the countries of the earth all allied and went to war against America's military it's a coin flip who would win.

There is no escaping America. America influences nearly every country at every level: economically, militaristically, and politically. It's not a joke. It's not "patriotism". It's simple fact. The US is a superpower which outweighs any other country in military might by a factor of over a hundred to one.

America is a superpower which doesn't even need to invade a country to destroy it. It can be bankrupted and ruined financially with a stroke of a pen. There is only one government who's say has any meaning or sway. That government is the United States of America.

Wow, Tom, this is some silly shit!  Do you really believe the crap in bold?  You do realize that within six months, China could field an army of nearly 1,000,000 men?  That India has nearly twice as many nuclear weapons as either the US or Russia, or that a platoon of Israeli soldiers could likely defeat 5 or 6 platoons of American forces?  Do you realize that there are more Blackwater, Inc. mercenaries on the ground in Iraq than there are American Troops?

If we can bankrupt a country with the stroke of a pen, why did we need to invade Iraq after years of economic sanctions?  Why did they not simply collapse under the weight of US power?  Why is Osama bin Laden moderating this message board instead of dead?  Oh, that's right, because we trained him, financed him, and employ him as a black ops agent.

Nice catch.  I was wrong, but so are you.  Wiki shows 1.4 million currently active.  2.4 total armed forces, which likely includes reserves and inactive commissions.

Well, that's tough.  All the sources I can find online show massive, pre-disarmament numbers for both the US and Russia.  We're talking thousands, compared to around 500 for China.  This is no longer the case.  I remember a Dateline (US news show) talking about how we dismantled all but a few hundred 'token' missiles over the last 10 years, while China has been steadily building their program since the 60's.

Sorry, but India has less than 300 nuclear warheads. How is that "nearly twice" as many as the US (greater than 5,000) and Russia (greater than 14,000)?

Yes, total and active are two different things.  See, in the english language, different words have different meanings.  They don't just get to mean whatever you want them to for a specific usage.  As I pointed out, India has 1.4 active military troops.

It's not, if you read my post, you'll notice that I pointed out that the online sources are a bit outdated.  The one you linked, for example, shows an update on October 9, but is referencing information from the nuclear bulletin here: http://thebulletin.metapress.com/content/hh405772860642u7/fulltext.pdf , which is only accurate to 1999.  We have dismantled thousands of missiles since then, but I forgot all about the stockpile.

If you count reserve, inactive missiles and warheads, etc., It appears we still have more missiles than China.  Active missiles seem to be about equal.  The information regarding China's armaments is also outdated, and they have been steadily producing while we have been steadily destroying.
