How long are your days?

Well my days are getting close to 12 hours long, they are still a little longer... Here on Sept 22nd every one earth will have a 12 hour day and a 12 hour night (+ or - a few mins). This is proof that the spot light sun / moon theory is trash.

I'm still contemplating the optimal position for data collection. I can observe sunrise across the coast, but sunset'll be a bitch 'cause there are mountains in the way. Perhaps I could go up to the Central Coast, there are some pretty big lakes up there with a narrow peninsula between the lakes and the ocean.

I think I've found a good spot, although it's about an hour away by car. Here it is. Do a Street View on that bridge to see the kind of visibility I'd get; eastward is across the open ocean, west is across a lake. I may be able to find a better viewpoint along that lake for sunset, it's just that that is the best place that Google Maps has Street View for.

yur really close to the supersonic jet streams there...

My spot will suck i live in Omaha NE and its pretty hilly here so i would get a very accurate ob. It will be off by 30+ mins due to the sun rising a little later (hills) and setting slightly early (yep hills).

I don't know; I don't go there very often. Still, I think going to the Central Coast is probably my best bet; there will be hills and/or mountains in the distance to the west, but they will subtend such a small amount of arc that it should be negligible as compared with the arc length subtended by the radius of the Sun.

Someone suggested taking a compass to get a bearing on the Sun. Will this be useful?

Oh, and are we just taking everyone's word? Is there any other sort of verification going to be needed?

No, because that would require compensating for the offset of the local magnetic field from True North/South based on data that may have been manipulated by the conspiracy.

Extensive amounts of photography would be nice, although according to the "rules" of discussion here, photographic evidence... isn't.

They are manipulating the published declination, yes. If they published the correct declination, it would become immediately obvious that the Earth is flat.

They are manipulating the published declination, yes. If they published the correct declination, it would become immediately obvious that the Earth is flat.

If that were the case, I'd get lost every trip I took.  You are full of it.  I get declination updates before every trip I take and every time I wind up right where I am supposed to.  Are the redrawing the maps too, because most of my maps say they were printed in the fifties to the seventies.

No, you still end up where you are going because you are using RE maps with incorrect declination. If you tried using the correct declination with a RE map, you would get lost. You would need to use a FE map with the correct declination to arrive at your destination.

Here, I'll help you out.  Not just for you, but for others who may not understand.

1. Magnetic Declination is the angular difference between true north, the point from which all maps are drawn, to magnetic north, the point to which all compasses point.

2. In the 20th century the magnetic north pole has moved 700 miles, and is currently moving at a rate of 25 miles per year.

3. If it continues on it's current path, it will be over Siberia by the year 2050.

Interesting fact: Since 1650 the Agonic line for North America has shifted across the entire southern portion of the United States and back again and currently lies in Mississippi.
