Book Ideas
« on: September 05, 2008, 03:29:54 PM »
Upon my latest visit to Chapters, I discovered an interesting leaflet regarding publishing packages available. I write from time to time, both fiction and non-fiction and given the newly discovered packages, I'm looking to write something extensive to utilize their services.

I was hoping that some people here would have some interesting and serious ideas for both fictional and non-fictional books.

Something like The Book, perhaps?

Perhaps something allegorical? I imagine you would probably be good at that.

What kind of things have you written about previously? A sample might give us a sense of your style.

Anything and everything. Technical, fiction (thriller, drama), non-fiction (philosophy, science). Quite a few editorial pieces based on logically assessing scenarios and situations. Sky is the limit.

Something I wrote a long time ago for a writing course in high school:

Writing is life. It is never ending, never beginning, continuous, yet paused. It blooms from the creation and sweeps across time to eloquently take its course. It never sleeps, or dreams, yet turns dreams into verity. It is purposeful and eventful, but insignificant. Writing is life.

It breathes and flows and its every action sequenced, its every moment accounted. It evolves and grows but is immune to excessive change. It is but a basis, a starting point, which constantly cultivates in its existence. It is heartless, cold, yet exuberant and warm. It is selfish and unselfish; it's individual and collected. It speaks calmly as time elaborates its actions, reactions and destiny. It brings about change, and it brings about tradition. Writing is life.

It is the air you breathe and affects you, consumes you and fills you with inspiration. It is the lake you swim in, surrounding you, flowing and wet with passion. It is music, allocated with harmony, numerous tempos and accents. It is the spice that gives food its savory flavor. It is the snow of winter, the leaves of fall, which graciously fall upon us. It is the morning that always wakes us, the evening that lulls us into the dream world. It is the clothes we wear, the sweat we produce, and the tears we shed. It is the clock we set, the TV we watch, the activities we participate in. Writing is life.

It is our fingerprints, our body and soul. It feels no pain, yet is in anguish. It is the peak of a mountain, so high, so celestial. It is heaven and it is hell. It is everything yet it is nothing. It is writing, and writing is life.

As for others:

Don't have anything on the computer that's substantial as fiction goes. Only thing I have is an extremely short beginning to a story that can be found on this forum under the thread "My Story."

Thanks for sharing.

I found Albert Camus' La Peste recently and I remembered our brief exchange on existentialism. I still suspect you would be great at some sort of philosophical allegory novel.

I would love to read some of your work. I trust you have some dripping narratives of Deanna Troi seducing all the man that is Worf.

A Klingon battle/romance novel perhaps?

Make sure to remind us how tight Deanna's uniform is.

An alternative history novel where Hitler was killed in the first world war, without Germany's might the Soviet Union becomes the dominant European power. It could be about an alternative Neville Chamberlain's attempts to secure peace with the USSR.

That's actually a very intriguing suggestion. Perhaps even taking into account alternative hypotheticals over a wider range of topics, and not just Hitler. It would place a high priority on in-depth research on my part (which would be fun), logical deduction and other philosophical intricacies; Seems like a novel approach and lots of fun.

Ah, I suppose I was misleading.

http://www.iuniverse.com

It's simply self-publishing.
