True, NASA has never been to space.  However, NASA has sent manned and unmanned objects into space (just like most other national and private space agencies).

There is no great difficulty in reaching space under FET.

So is the FE being accelerated (pushed from the bottom) by DE into the vacuum of space, or is the FE being accelerated by some other mechanism into a DE medium that forms the bow shock in front of the FE? 

BTW, how can energy form a bow shock anyway.  I thought that bow shocks were a phenomenon exclusive to fluids (liquids and gasses).

The FE is being accelerated (not "pushed") by the DE. The DE encounters an obstacle and forms a shape similar to a bow shock in front of the FE. Thus, the DEF forms: the DEF acts as a lid for the atmolayer and the objects inside of the FE.

The composition of the DE is unknown. As divito once mentioned, Dark Energy is probably just a name for the mechanism.
