Tripping the Light Fantastic.....again
« on: September 01, 2008, 03:15:00 PM »
I posted this in General Discussion but was 'advised' to post it here.

New to the forum,  I appreciate this question I'm going to ask will have been answered previously but I don't have the time or the inclination to find it.  Anyway, here goes;

Now, I'm assuming that if the earth is flat then the distance we can travel in one direction is finite.  Therefore, how can one 'circumnavigate' the 'globe'?  I appreciate that sending someone into space to prove or disprove one or other theory is far too expensive but surely it would be easy enough for one FE'r and one RE'r to set off in one direction and not stop until they either fell off or arrived back in the same place??

I've read other topics and questions are usually answered with a sprinkling of sarcasm, abuse and general put downs.  Given that I've used none of the above, I'd be grateful if this question was answered without any either.  After all, we live in a society.

Thank you.

I've been to the FAQ's on numerous occasions but can't find a specific answer to my question.
I will believe the earth is flat the day I fall of it, and not a moment sooner!

I thought you said you read the FAQ?

Good shout Professor,

This is what has passed previously on this subject/topic, it's a question asked in good faith but yet to receive a credible response.

I look forward to hearing from you.

The example used were the round the world yacht records.

This link actually plots Dame Ellen Macarthurs route and the route of Francis Joyon, who beat her record. It gives full co-ordinates at every point.

Not in the same relation to your flat map though. I think this serious question deserves a serious answer.

Care to try?

You know Lostforwords, I think it makes no difference if you are on General Discussion or Flat Earth Questions & Clarifications.

They won't answer it because they can't answer it.

But if someone does answer it I bet it is with something like 'read the FAQ' or 'They must have been in on the conspiracy' or 'their data is wrong'.

Shame.

The theory, if I understand it correctly, is that you would need a compass to do so.  If you traveled say East and kept your compass pointed at one point you would travel in a circle.  That's how I have heard it explained anyway.  Does that answer your question, or did I completely mis interpret what you wanted to know?

Thanks for stepping up to the plate C-Ray.

Its the route. If it was applied to the Flat Earth map (like the one posted on the Wikipedia page) then the distances covered would be impossible to do in the time taken.

maybe we should give them one of those puzzle ball 3d globe jigsaw things, will that disprove your theory?

Aye but eventually the thread will get ignored.

Then I would like clarification on the question being raised without a 'funny' answer.

If the world is flat then why is it so hard to answer......or is the earth actually round?....hmm could it be? But if this question can be answered then they have a case.

Oh sorry it hasn't been...ah well.

yet another topic that we have shown the true tactics of the FE's, sciencer. if we ask the wrong questions, the thread is ignored until it falls off the first page and is forgotten. amybe there is a FEFE's conspiracy!

i challenge the FE's. keep this thread going with sensible answers.
