OK, fair enough.  I just wondered how the latitudes and longitudes were applied.

The distance given in kilometres show a discrepancy of about 76,000 between the circumference of a flat earth and the distance covered by McArthur (I'm sticking to using her as an example as it's where this started).  Any reference to her journey shows approximately the same distance covered.

I think we can forgive whoever wrote the article for rounding either up or down (rounding down I think) the distance covered as I'm sure the circumference of a flat Earth is not exactly 126,000km, in fact I think it says as much in the Wikipedia article.

'The modern Flat Earth Society describes the Earth as being a disc with a diameter of about 40,000 km (24,900 miles) and a circumference of 126,000 km (78,225 miles).'

To say 'she must be mistaken' is a huge slap in the face to her and her team.  The instruments used in a journey of this type (the difference, sometimes between life and death) would have to be calibrated to incredibly fine margins and to suggest that they could be out by such a large distance is not worth considering.

I'm not saying the Wikipedia article should be taken as gospel but as there are no references to distances on the main site, it's all I've got to use.

Nope I dont think one exists.  Sorry.  Due to constraints on keeping the shape of the earth hidden the funding and/or resources have not been available for an accurate mapping of the Flat Earth.  Tom is willing to do it for us if we fund him.  We are just going to have to use what we can find.

No one knows the exact circumference. I don't know what to tell you.  We will just have to wait until Tom wins the lottery so he can go out on his earth mapping expedition.

I never put words in your mouth I asked a question.

I appreciate your attemps to answer this question posed by Lostforwords but there hasn't even been an attempt to look at the HUGE discrepancies in the distances that would have to be travelled on a FE model in the time taken.

Lostforwords has made a great point. Can you attempt to answer his last post?

Nothing you have said has convinced me yet!!

Can you see where I am coming from though? And the reason why it gets frustrating?

You asked some questions - I answered them to the best of my ability. I gave you what information I could without actually speaking to those involved. Now granted there are some small differences in the figures given.
But you have still failed to answer the main question of how can these round the world sailing records be possible on a flat earth given the flat earth model and the size of the circumference of this model.

I think it is the reason why 24 hours on from the original question that no one has been able to - Because no one can!!

I believe that this type of question has always been a pain in the ass for the FE'ers and they hate being asked it.
Nothing you have said has convinced me yet!!

It may well be and very interesting. Thank you. I like it.

It doesn't answer this one though.

Wardog, you have confused me.  In this topic you seem to be advocating the flat earth model but in the linked topic you seem to be doing the opposite.

I don't know what to take from this, are you FE'r or RE'r??  Or is this site/forum simply a means to wind people and provoke debate/conversation/argument?!

I am DE.

I like to Debate the shape of the Earth.

You have to agree both are very plausible.

Although you would have to say the evidence on one side outweighs the evidence on the other side.

At least you are prepared to answer questions and not hide when the questions get a little tricky.

I don't think you have lostforwords.

What it has proved is that no one that truly believes that the earth is flat is prepared to answer your question.

What I deduce from that is that they will not because they cannot.

What else can anyone take from this?

I'm taking the silence following Gobsmacked's last post as a tacit admission, that excluding Wardogg's stirring (kudos on that by the way!), no-one has a legitimate answer to my original question.

Backed up, of course by cold, hard facts and not by casting aspersions on people/groups/organisations for being 'in on the conspiracy theory'.

Speechless I wouldn't let it bother you. I have looked around this forum and the subject of distances travelled in the southern hemisphere seems to put all the FE'ers into hiding.

When faced with a real example no one can give any sensible answers. They revert to answers such as 'Read the FAQs' or 'its a conspiracy' or 'your information must be incorrect' whilst offering nothing in return.

I am open minded and would love to hear their theories but on this subject it seems there are no explanations.

Today Astronomy101 put up a few posts implying Tom Bishop had answers.

Where is he on this topic?

Did any of you try posting the question in Q&C?
