All you Flat Earth Believers, Try this:
« on: August 30, 2008, 08:34:25 PM »
I'm not talking about theory here, I'm talking about actual experimentation. Stop your "Conspiracy" crap and do something scientific to show that this Earth is flat...

Go to the North Pole. Now walk one mile away in any direction. Now, keeping the North Pole always to your direct left, walk forward at a constant recorded speed until you come back to the spot that you started. Record the speed and how long it took. Now, go to the South Pole (or in your case the "edge" of the flatness). Do the same experiment as above.

Guess what?! The times will be the same!! How can that be unless the Earth is actually spherical? I mean, from your flat Earth view, walking a mile from the South Pole ("the edge" or whatever term you nuts have for it) and if you say the flatness is about 24900 miles in diameter (quoted from James McIntyre on the Foxnews.com website) then you will be walking approx. 78,000 miles. However, when only a mile from the North Pole, that circle you walked would be just over 6 miles...

How could that be? And again, don't give me your theory crap, this is a FOOL PROOF Experiment!! Go and try it. If it works out that your times are the same, well, world is round. If the times are drastically different, world may be flat.

And just so you can be sure, this will work at any distance from the poles as long as the distance is not equal to half the distance from the poles. That's because that is what is known as the equator, and in both the Flat Earth theory and the Spherical Earth the times would be the same. So if you can't get to the poles, try some other locations.

My biggest point here is GIVE US SOME PROOF, not just spouted garbage.

Really, the first reply to this post is "Have you done it?"   You see, this is the problem... you're reflecting this back on me, when I've posed a solid way for you to prove your argument. If there really are so many of you Flat Earth believers, I'm sure you can raise a little money (You have a website that was linked to from a Foxnews source) and finally put the question to rest.

But no! Instead you decide to make little comment like "Have you done it?"... really. No, I haven't but I haven't been to Jamaica, but I know it's hot. I haven't been shot, but I know it hurts. There are things in this world that we can know even if we haven't experienced it.

All I'm saying is if you believe it so badly and want to prove it, I'm laying it out there... PROVE IT!

Go do it, document it, and come back.

For some reason I think there might be a little problem with your "walking from the North Pole to the South Pole" experiment.

I see that coming to this website was a bad idea... once again, the only argument you have is to deflect... You see, the point is I don't have to prove it, the entire world except for a few hundred misguided people knows the truth. There have been many proofs of the Earth being round, yet none that I know of that hold up of the Earth being flat... And I'm sure that if ANYONE suggested a way for you to try to prove that the world is flat all you would do is say "But have you done that?"

I don't need to prove anything. I have the world on my side...

Did someone else walk from the North Pole to the South Pole?   ???

I was wondering this myself.

Besides, jjxanadu, the burden of proof is upon you. So go do the experiment, come back with proper documentation, and then we'll hear your idea.

Wow, let me break it down so your minds can handle this... I know the world is round, so know the times will be the same, HOWEVER, let's assume I don't know that...

It's really simple. Do the experiment. IF the times are the same, the world is round. IF the times are not the same, the world is not round. Done.
That is the basis for an air tight experiment. Whether or not I've done it, it will work out to one of two possible conclusions. That's it. So here is your chance, get some buddies together, raise some cash, and try it out, documenting the whole time. If you were able to show that the times are drastically different, BOOM. Non-round Earth (can't quite say it's flat yet).

Or you can just keep saying the Earth is flat "just because" and sound like a crazy religious cult... your choice.

Holy toledo ... and they say the FE'ers are an unstable bunch ...
This looks more like something that you would read in the angry ranting section. Plus who in their right mind would walk around in 40 below weather just to prove some inconcievable theory.
I think this just proves my theory of the RE'ers being under the control of the pharmacuetacle companies( who are starting to look more and more like the ones behind the conspiracy anyway.
Thinking outside the box , Doesnt include Believing the earth is round.

How does one define the south pole on a flat Earth? Also, how does one walk in the middle of the ocean?
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

You came here to us to try and prove us wrong, not the other way around. So again, go do it, and then talk. Until you go from pure speculation to actual documentation after doing it, then we'll take the idea a little more seriously.

Apparently you don't know how BoP works; it is on the person making the claim. You made the thread with the claim, so you have to prove it.

I have the entire world on my side. I have science and history on my side.

Fallacies.

You have conspiracy and belief, and nothing more...

And just plain wrong.

FE'ers claim that the Earth is flat. They also claim that there is a huge conspiracy going on to cover up the shape of the Earth. Can we see some real proof to back up these two claims?

We don't need to prove that a square isn't a square. If it looks like a square then it's a square by pretense.

The earth looks like a plane so therefore it's a plane by pretense. The burden is on you to prove that it is actually a globe. You're the one making the claim beyond human experience here.

You'll also have to prove that NASA can do all of things they claim that they can do. What's the simplest explanation; that NASA has successfully designed and invented never before seen rocket technologies from scratch which can accelerate 100 tons of matter straight up at 7 miles per second, and that NASA can do the impossible on a daily basis, explore the cosmos, and constantly wow the nation by landing a man on the moon and sending robots to mars; or is the simplest explanation that they really can't do all of that stuff?

Your claim that NASA can do all of this stuff is another claim beyond human experience. You'll have to prove your claim.

Asking us to prove a negative is not a valid debate tactic. It's not our responsibility to prove that ghosts *don't* exist, or that John Titor really *didn't* travel through time in a Time Machine. The burden on you is to actually do what's possible and prove a positive.

According to all FE'ers who put their faith in the bent-light-theory, earth does look like a sphere. Even you seem to support that theory Tom:

This seems to be further evidence that light bends upwards. Thanks dyno.

Yeah I was thinking of crediting the ancient Chinese, but figured the "100 tons of matter straight up at 7 miles per second" applied far more to German V rockets.

The point stands nonetheless.  Tom makes it sound like NASA sprinkled pixie dust on a toilet roll and made it fly.  When actually they simply adapted and improved technology that had been around for years.
