According to this gif, the sun spins in a circle above the earth. How do you explain that we in the northen part of the world gets daylight times that varies from 5 - 10 hours depending on the season?

The sun's orbit varies in radius. It orbits over the Tropic of Cancer in June and over the Tropic of Capricorn in December. It is directly over the Equator in March and September.

Well actually you are right, FE couldn't explain anything, since it is of course nothing more than a bad joke. Whereas since the Earth is round, it neatly explains everything.

Tom, I'm so very glad that you asked that question. 

It seems that we have an equinox coming up in a few weeks.  It also seems that we have forum members here from all over the world.  What better way to test the equinox than by having forum members test that theory by direct observation.  All we need is to have some people from both northern and southern hemispheres (hemiplanes) record sunrise and sunset times on Sept 22 and then post the results.

How about it Tom?  Are you ready to do some real science for a change?  Any other takers?

As far as I'm concerned all I would need would be location (city, state/country) and the times of the actual observed sunrise and sun set (weather permitting) on the day of the equinox.  Even published times from local news sources would be fine by me, but some others may require something more substantial.

However, I should point out that this alone will not "prove" the shape of the earth one way or another.  It is only intended to test one small part of the RE model.

Well, I've never been much of a morning person, but I suppose that I could too.  The bigger problem, however, would be getting some FE'ers to join the experiment.  Tom, Dogplatter, Username, Narc, Gayer, Steve (Osama), Roundy, et al, are you guys in?  After all, we don't want you guys calling foul because FET wasn't properly represented.  We would definitely need observers in both hemispheres (hemiplanes).

Elevation will affect the result. Flat would be preferable.

elevation should not affect the result as long as the elevation does not change you should still get 12hr of sun. now where I am at will pose a bit of a problem because I have mountains to the east and ocean to the west so we shall see what happens
