Sound off!
« on: September 09, 2008, 02:47:12 PM »
I have wrestled with this topic for a while.  I have thought about searching all over the forums for the answers, and I have tried, but honestly there is too much variation and too much senselessness about peanut butter and circular logic that I won't even go into.  Perhaps one of the moderators could sticky this somewhere and make it a newbie thread if you FE'rs will play nice and do what I am practically on my knees begging you to do.  I think this would help immensely to any noobs on these forums.  I have said this before, I will say it again.  Clearly there are a lot of intelligent people on these boards who can hold their own in a debate and are knowledgeable not only in the theory, or hypothesis, of Flat Earth but Round Earth as well.

Now to the meat of this topic.

I would love it if the Flat Earthers on these fine boards would use this discussion to sound off on their own theories of Flat Earth.

I have heard and read too much variation to be able to nail down and develop what I think is a true representation of FET.  For instance, Tom is the only one I know of that thinks that FE is an infinite plane.  Osama just said that he doesn't believe it is impossible to go to the moon.  Now whether he is just trying to rise someone or is honestly serious, or for hell all I know he could be a RE'er.  You can use this topic however you want as long as the results are the same; a clear and concise description of each FET in regards to the poster.  I would appreciate it if RE'ers would just hold back from making any comments at all.  I will try and work to gather some of the theories as I have heard them, but that could become a real mess.  There are a lot of very intelligent theories out there, but it is so hard to nail down this to that poster and that to this poster.  I can say from a noob myself, it is very frustrating to keep hearing new theories and read the FAQ when the FAQ doesn't fit most of the theories on this board.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Again, please only True Fe'rs who have valid theories pertaining to FET.

Begin.....
The Earth is Round.

First of all, you'll probably want to take everything Tom says with a grain of salt.  We all agree he is kind of weird.

The Flat Earth Society does not endorse anything said by Tom Bishop.  In fact, just about everything he says is stupid.
Where did you educate the biology, in toulet?

One of Engy's most hilarious posts.  However, now that I come to think of it, I'm not sure if Tom was "wrong" in his theory about the size of the Earth.  I believe Dogplatter and Username told Brendan O'Neill two different ideas about it.

Ha. You guys are sooooo wrong. Tom has the three best lines on the forum:  "Look out your window," "Have you read Earth: Not a Globe'," and "Stop posting."  That alone puts him in first place in the FES Heroes Hall.  8)

A collection of my theories of the Flat Earth:

Flying
I've theorized that you will never travel in a straight line on the FE. The reason behind this is that our compass always point to the North, which is the center of the FE. In your FoR, your paths are straight. In the FE's FoR, your paths are curved. This explains why circumnavigation is possible on FE, where you travel in a straight line (in your FoR) and end up back where you started. This also explains why it is impossible for you to fly pass the edge of the world.

Passing the Edge of the World
My theory is exactly the same reason why you can't fly an airplane straight out into space in the RE:

As I've said before, it depends on which frame of reference are you talking about. Plus, straight is a relative term. Reread my previous post.

Yes, you'd hit the wall
But you can't pass it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I'm gonna have to unify this with the DEF theory. I'm guessing the DEF might be able to aid in explaining why we can't fly pass the edge of the world, not just because our flight paths are curved.

The DEF holds our massive accelerating atmolayer in place. Thus, in order for us to fly pass the edge of the world (in this case, the DEF), we must have a mass greater than the atmolayer's while still maintaining an upward acceleration of 9.8m/s2. It is theorized that the atmolayer's mass value is the limit before a penetration of the DEF [note: this is only a theory, as the limit could be greater than the atmolayer's mass. We do not know how much mass can the DEF really hold]. The DEF is not the same as gravitation, so escape velocity does not exist.

This can also explain why direct or sustained space-flight is not possible in the FE.

Development of the Ice Wall
Oxygen is generated by photosynthesis and life is established after the surface of the flat Earth warms down to a reasonable, life-supporting temperature.

Ice Wall Theory
The Formation of the Ice Wall and Beginning of the Flat Earth

Unlike the RE, in which it first existed as a molten planet, the FE actually existed as an icy disc of matter. The icy layer contains huge amounts of dissolved CO2. In the beginning, the Sun starts at the center of the Earth, and thus heat is most concentrated at this location. There the ice melts over time, creating a large pool. Remember, albedo (reflectivity) alone cannot prevent the ice from melting. As time passes, this pool spreads as nearby ice continues to melt. The melting process starts from the center of the Earth all the way to its edge. During this process, some of the ice directly converts into water vapor through sublimation: it occurs when temperature and pressure falls below the triple point (water). The water vapors rise into the atmosphere, which later condense into clouds. Droplets of rain from these clouds generate warm water from the atmosphere, speeding up the melting process. The ice stops melting at the edge because it is farther away from heat source. Hence, the ice wall is created. The ice ages also contributed to the buildup of the ice wall. Lithospheric activity forms and maintains its mountain ranges. The hydrologic cycle dominates this system. [Note: The surface of the ice wall is NOT flat! It just happens to cover the mountains underneath it, like how some mountains on the RE are covered in ice.]

The process of melting:

THESE ARE ILLUSTRATIONS ONLY
1 The icy flat Earth

2 The ice melts due to heat

3 The ice continues to melt until it meets the edge

In the end, the ice stops melting because the edge is farther away from heat source, leaving an "ice wall" (rocky layers are underneath the ice). Thus, the melting process ceases. Lithospheric activity controls its mountain ranges.

Here is the side-view of the process (with the hydrologic cycle):

1. The icy flat Earth.

2. The ice at the center melts into liquid water. The water spreads.

3. Ice continues to melt and water continues to spread. At the same time, sublimation occurs.

4. Ice continues to melt and water continues to spread further. Sublimation continues.

5. Ice melts and water spreads. Evaporation makes progress.

6. The melting process stops near the edge. Condensation and precipitation occurs, generating clouds and rains.

And the cycle continues...

The Beginning of the Earth
The rocky continents underneath the thick layer of ice are revealed as the ice continues to melt. Then, once the surface reaches a suitable temperature for life, bacteria begin to appear. The first anaerobic bacteria do not require oxygen to survive. Due to the evolution process, photosynthetic bacteria (cyanobacteria) and plants also appear. Their photosynthesis generates oxygen from light (the Sun), water (the hydrologic cycle), and CO2 (from the melted ice).

Terminal Velocity of FE [Done with other members]

From Engy and Robbyj:
/\    acceleration of the earth.  /\     acceleration of the person
|                                          |
|                                          |
When these are equal, the person has reached terminal velocity.

|
\/  Acceleration of the person.  /\  Acceleration due to air resistance.
                                           |
When these are equal, the person has reached terminal velocity.

V=at regardless of FE or RE.

Anet=AEarth-AObject

There is a terminal velocity. Once Anet=0 the relative velocity will be constant which is the same as terminal velocity.

No wonder the FAQ is so short and snappy.

And ultimately useless.
