Where does the light beyond the horizon come from if the sun is the prime illumination source?

I believe there was some dude named Thomas Edison who invented a way for people to create light artificially.

yeah, but not that much artifact light would creep over the horizon.  Unless they decided Siberia was too dark for tourists.

This is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if there is light from beyond the horizon, we are discussing why the Earth appears round. As you look closer and closer to the horizon, the light is bending up to meet you so that it appears to come from lower down than would a light ray travelling straight. The horizon is the point at which a light ray between the surface of the Earth and the observer is tangential to the surface of the Earth. Beyond the horizon, light cannot reach you because it would need to travel through the Earth itself to do so.

Well but in saying that the sun is parallel to the earth, it is a good assumption to say that the rays are perpendicular.

Whats wrong with me saying this?

Stabler12, is it clear what i am trying to say?

(I mean its a spot light, in that case it spots things, light rays are direct, otherwise it would b called lightbulb.)
FET = Fake Earth Theory
RET = Real Earth Theory

And i wonder..Do penguins ever fall in space? Because that Ice Wall bust be pretty High!

Now it all makes sense!!! That's why we could never prove Santa!! He must be hiding at the Ice Wall!!

Nothing except a laser can create light rays that are all moving in exactly the same direction. The Sun probably gives off radiation across an angle of about 50-60 degrees.

No, what I described was an explanation for why the Earth appears round in FET.

I see what you are saying, McKee, but Osama is also trying to make a valid point in the FET, as well.

Tangent:
1 a: meeting a curve or surface in a single point if a sufficiently small interval is considered <straight line tangent to a curve> b

Source: Merriam -Webster Online

If the earth was flat, light wouldn't need to penetrate the earth, but it does on a RE model.

If light travelled in straight lines, then you would be correct. But a parabolic arc with appropriate concavity joining you and a point beyond the horizon intersects the Earth's surface twice.

Radiation of 50-60 degrees at all time? Then we shouldn't see differences in the colors of the sunset, nor of the sky. However, we do get more intense sunset some days, and least intense others.

 Twice?  Is there a thread, or FAQ, so I can catch up on this?

And beside we are talking of sun rays that come almost tangentially to the earth that cause the sky to be red. At a very Steep angle.

I don't see why not.

Well you shouldn't see any differences, because in FET, it says that the earth is always at the same distance from the sun. While in RET, the distance changes.

And besides, as i have mentioned, very steep rays cause intense red sky, not 50/60 degrees ones..

lol! I was wondering where the post had gone..So let me understand

The Sun is considered like a spotlight
Its rays can come down at 50/60 degrees
You know that you need rays steeper than 60 degrees for a red sunset

However you do not think that the FET doesnt have a fallacy. please explain.

Yes, apparently just like a spotlight, but due to the weakness of the argument, I suspect the words 'Dark Energy' are making their way with ill founded confidence to this conversation.
Since this seems to be the default position of a flat earther who is backed into a corner.

The light bends to such an extent that it is coming down at a much steeper angle by the time it enters the atmoplane. Horizontal light at the Earth's surface is inclined at 70 degrees to the surface of the Earth at the height of the Sun.

You know that is very unclear, however, i think i know what you are saying. But you are missing the point, 70 degrees is still not quite enough for a red sky. We are talking about almost horizontal sunrays being scattered.

Yes, in that a photon travelling horizontally at the surface of the Earth would be bent by 70 degrees by the time it reached the Sun. Conversely, a photon inclined at 70 degrees coming from the Sun would be horizontal by the time it reached the surface of the Earth.

Isn't a prism the normal way to bend a light?  Maybe I'm not getting it.  Is moisture in the air causing a prismatic effect?
