Are people interested in Flat Earth Society t-shirts?
« on: August 19, 2008, 08:10:22 AM »
Over the past couple of years, I've had a number of people mention the idea of Flat Earth Society t-shirts.  Since I'll be "officially" opening for membership in a few weeks, I figured now would be the time to explore the possibility of FES t-shirts more seriously.

The amount of interest shown will determine how I'll go about getting the t-shirts made (or not made).  I'll either do small runs through a printing company or screen-print them myself.  I have the basic equipment but it's kind of a pain.  Doing it myself also means it will have to be a very simple one-colour design.

However, I'd much rather just get a professional to do small batches.  That means the design could be a bit more complex and we could use more than one colour.  For instance, the logo would probably has a blue background.  Printing on the back would probably add significantly to the cost, though, so design #3 might not be feasible.  The cost per t-shirt for me would be about £6.50 ($12.50).  I'm not interested in making money from these (or anything else on the site) so I'd sell them for cost + shipping.  Shipping would obviously depend on where you live.  Within the UK, it would be £1.50 or so.  To the US, more like $8.00 (according to the Royal Mail site).  So, all told, about £8.00 within the UK and $20.50 in the US.   Shipping to other countries outside of Europe is probably similar to the US costs.  These prices are all approximate and may change, but probably not much.

If anyone here has better designs, please feel free to post them.  I'm definitely not married to the ones I have so far and if someone comes up with a better design, I'm happy to use it.  It needs to have the FES logo and the website URL, but beyond that, I'm open to suggestions.  I put the logo at the end of this post in case anyone wants to mock up some designs.  I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter..

I'd definitely consider buying one if I could afford it whenever they were available. Though I'm generally not a fan of buying T-shirts with such designs on them, I may make an exception for FES. My preference would be design one.

I'll only buy one that says "the Earth isn't flat" because I don't want to look like a liar.

It could just say "Join the Flat Earth Society!" and then put the url. That would leave people to ponder what the shirt wearer believes...and it's advertising!  Also, moar colors!

If I wore any of those T-shirts down the street, I would most probably be laughed at and have the piss taken out of me   ( and beaten up by my superior intellectuals)

so no, it's a bad idea

Problem is, he's right. If anyone walked around in public with one of those shirts they'd look like an idiot.

Why the hell else would you buy it? If I spent money on a FES T-shirt, I'd be damn sure to wear it in public at every possible opportunity!

exactly. I don't see why people wouldn't want to wear them in public. I should get a matching t-shirt for The Bloke so we can look stupid and gay in matching clothes. On second thoughts, I won't.
