question I couldn't find in FAQ
« on: August 17, 2008, 07:21:36 PM »
if Earth was flat, couldn't you stand on a mountain in the U.S. and see China through a strong telescope? or see Mt. Everest or the Ice Wall or something?

do you think it's too thick to see farther than 4,374.29 meters with a telescope (which is the ground distance from eye level to the round-earth horizon)?

A fellow Kansan...neat.

I live 28 miles away from a pretty tall moutain.  Some days I can see it some days I cant, due to atmospheric conditions, IE humidity and density and whatnot.  Thats why you can't stand on a mountain in the US and see China.

Well that and the world is actually round.  ;)
