See the 'magic' part of my sig?  Fill that in, please.

Could you do the same?

Except, imagine it's a picture of a flat earth, with an arrow indicating movemt up, and have the word "MAGIC" underneath it, pushing same.

No.  The mechanism is unknown.

I just find it funny that RE'ers hold this over the FE'ers heads, while magic is somehow causing them to stick to the ground.

I guess like how lightning used to be magic. It happened anyway, even though we didn't understand it. Funny how nature doesn't care about our intelligence.

I only hold it over their heads because of the constant "waaaah, there's no such thing as gravity!" speech we get from you lot. Well, all I can assert there is....if there is no such thing as gravity, there is no such thing as a force pushing us up from underneath.

Except that there is no force of gravity.  It is a well accepted feature of the RE.

In round earth theory, what causes all celestial bodies to have gravity?

Matter, it has a weight which effects thigs around it

This is perhaps the most hilarious answer to that particular question that I have ever read.

News: The Flat Earth Society forums are back up!  I apologise for the downtime.  The problem has been resolved and won't happen again.  Also, the FES will be opening for official membership (complete with certificates and individually-numbered medals!) in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned!

New Flat Earth book being released!
« on: April 13, 2007, 07:35:31 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been in contact with an author named Christine Garwood for the past couple of years because she's been working on a book about the history of the Flat Earth concept and the people connected to it.  It's being released on April 20th and I wanted to give it a bit of promotion.  Christine was kind enough to send me an advance copy (signed, no less!) of the book and I received it yesterday.  I haven't read the entire thing yet, but I'm working on it and I have to say that I'm very impressed so far.  It's a fascinating read and very well-researched to boot.  I encourage everyone to give it a read: Flat Earth: The History of an Infamous Idea.

The book promo you cited is dated April 13th.  The book is about the history of the flat earth idea and is most decidedly not supportive. You may read a review of the book on the Amazon website and elsewhere if you doubt me.

Do you also think that my newspaper's Sunday Book Review is also receiving money every time they review or recommend a book to readers?

It's possible to spend a year on the Antarctic ice rim.

The 150 foot Ice Wall is also known as the Ice Shelves, which boarders most of the Antarctic coast. Your father would have seen them when going into Antarctica.

That picture is fake and could have been photochopped.

So first of all it is just ice, why would I photoshop Ice?  Secondly you are saying that one of your own FE believer Tom Bishop is Faking photo's and suppling them to us RE's.

Wow the conspiracy thickens.

By coincidence, I've just gotten my copy of the Garwood book out of my mailbox.  I ordered it in April!  Amazon, I suppose, has finally received the remainders from Amazon UK.  Blurb on the bock of the jacket reads "A glorious romp around the world of Flat Earthism."

It'll be a long night. ;D

Same here. No one answered my Southern Cross point, or my detailed analysis of the "conspiracy".

It generally goes like this.

US: (insert completely reasonable point disproving FE here)
THEM: "lurk more"
US: "Lurk where? We've been through most of the threads for this year, can you point us in the right direction?"
THEM: "Read the FAQ"
US: "We did, that point wasn't addressed there"
THEM: "Ummm...er...read this" (posts link for highly suspect essay about space-warping that looks as though it was written by an 8th grader tripping his balls off on acid)
US: "Who wrote that? What particular qualifications in the sciences do they hold?"
THEM: "uhhhh...ummm....holy crap! Look at the time! I have to....go and....wash the dog"
