Has Anyone Ever Heard of the Flat Earth Party?
« on: June 02, 2008, 02:18:07 PM »
I have photographs of a great deal of correspondence between religious scholars dating back a few decades. This one in particular was intriguing because the gentlemen wrote on a pre-printed note pad for something called "The Flat Earth Party." Just wondering if you guys had heard of it. I couldn't find anything online.

I edited out the names of the persons in Photoshop.

Well, I guess my decision is made up. If he's the giant duche, I'll take the turd sandwich.

I think you missed the point. You wouldn't even have to do anything apart from turn up.

People interested in the history of Zeteticism as it applies to politics should read about the exploits of John Dowie and Wilbur Voliva in Zion, Illinois.

There was once a Flat Earth city.

The "Watch your step" self-depreciating humour and other nuances of tone suggest that it may be the work of Leo Ferrari or one of his associates (who always tried to see the jolly side of zetetic science) although the "San Diego" header makes it less likely to be an artifact of our Canadian friends.

The bottom of the pad page displays a city address of North Adams, MI. The writer of the note, and attached letter, may have simply had the pad with him while in San Diego. I can't find any information on it, and the writer of the note is deceased.

Here's a link with info about the owner of the "Decatur Shop" in North Adams, MI—the name and address listed on the bottom of the notepad page. His name was/is Don Lipsett.

I spoke with someone who knew Don Lipsett and he said "The Flat Earth Party" was not meant to be serious. Apparently, Lipsett created numerous mock letterheads and organizations.
