My one question about proving the flat earth theory.
« on: May 29, 2008, 11:57:09 AM »
If you really belive in something, you should try your best to prove it. This is general knowledge, right? Well, why hasn't the FES funded an expedition to the Ice wall? If they are stopped by soldiers, and have video proof, then it is conclusive evidence that the government is trying to hide it. And if you ARE stopped by soldiers, i'm sure that many skeptics will pour funds into a second, larger, more aggressive expedition.

Hmm... maybe because there is no ice wall?

...or maybe because the flatness of the earth is so obvious that such costly methods are unnecessary?

If it is that obvious, then why does 99.999% of the earths population disagree with you? :-\

That is because we do not want to waste our time explaining someting that is already there for everyone to read.

The FAQ doesn't go in depth at all...

It seems like it was made by someone who can't be bothered to give full detailed answers.

Plus, it's outdated and really needs to be renewed since it is what you reference in almost all of your posts.

Why do we have to prove something that is so obvious by personal experience?

You guys need to prove to us that the earth is a globe.

erm no. you guys are the minority, round earth has been established for thousands of years..

You guys don't belive in it. You guys still can't prove the earth is flat.

No concrete evidence at all...

You have to prove it because it is not so obvious by personal experience.  Sure, the earth looks flat on the horizon, but that is because we are so ridiculously small on something that is so ridiculously big.  What other personal experience is there?  Have you been to the ice wall?  Have you been to outer space and seen the shape of the earth?  And no, I haven't been to outer space either, but I don't need to prove anything because I am accepting the logic of the scientists that can actually prove the earth is round, that has existed for a long time.

So you admit that the earth is flat? Thanks.

We have experimentally proven the flatness of the earth dozens of times in our literature. See my signature link for more information.

What experiments have you guys preformed to prove that the earth is a globe?

So in other words you guys don't really have experimental evidence which suggests that the earth is a globe. That's what I thought.

I said the earth looks flat you fucking dumbass.  And in the traditional FE'er way, I'm going to answer your question with another question.  What experiments have you guys done to prove it.  No, I'm not reading your dumb fucking book becuase it would be a waste of time.

How can you prove the authenticy of these experiments?
Were you there when these experiements were carried out?

And just to be nice, here you go.

1) A ship/hot air balloon dissappearing on the ocean.
2) lunar eclipses
3) constellations

I listed those even though I know that you will reply with:

1) Well, actually the hull is restored, because I've actually been there and seen it happen, durrrr....
2) This actually proves flat earth, thannks..... Victory for Flat Earth!!
3) stars are fake, durr.......

If the earth looks flat then there is zero reason to believe that it is actually round.

1. Half sunken ships have been restored by a telescope, proving that they are not behind the convexity of the earth
2. No one has proven that the shadow on the moon during a Lunar Eclipse comes from the earth
3. Constellations appear to descend in altitude as the observer travels southward due to perspective.

I find number 3 to be completly untrue. Yes they would seem to go downward but if they were a flat plane above us then they should appear to cluster the farther back they are.

Actually the stars provide a good reason to think that the earth might be round.  The stars seem to be rotating around us as if they were attached to a giant celestial sphere rotating around us.  Just trace out their paths all night, and they make perfect circular arcs across the sky with the north star at its pole.  In addition, as every navigator knows, the north star appears to raise one degree for every 69 miles traveled northward.  This suggests that the earth must be a sphere.

So I guess if I have really shitty seats at a baseball game and the players look like ants, then there is no reason to believe that they are not ants.  Fucking ridiculous.

1) Let me see the pictures.
2) What the fuck else would be there to make that shadow??
3) You use the perspective excuse alot, and it doesn't provide any real evidence.

This observation is quite related to mine expressed in the thread I started. If the polar star were in some place above the flat earth it would be just above the north pole. Therefore, as you go south the star would reduce its altitude but not at a constant "angular velocity", its altitude would be arctan(h/d) where h is its elevation above north pole and d is the your distance from north pole. As you go further south the polar star would reduce its astronomical altitude at a lower rate. We do not see that, it appears to reduce its altitude one degree for every 69 miles traveled in a very precise way...

Oh man... you guys are taking my thread way off topic. Can we get back to the main issue? If we had reverse roles in where the majority of the Earth belived that the planet was flat and I belived it was round, i'd try my whole life to prove it... by the simplest way possible, going around the planet.
