South Pole, who owns it?
« on: May 12, 2008, 03:54:42 PM »
Hi there,

brand new to the boards and I think there are some great points made which I am keenly reading through :)

Quick question though, I was under the impression that no one country controls / owns the north or south pole due to a treaty put together? Which interestingly co-insides with the retention of the Fauklands by British forces due to the strategic placement for invading South America and a strong post for mining within the South Pole when it became available.

What I am trying to say, isn't it strange that no superpower has declared "we own that", or I am misinformed.

What is strange is that one can't travel to any part of Antarctica, excepting a very small region for tourists.
