If the Earth is flat, then we should be able to see all the way across the Oceans, right? So why can't we? The truth is that wer can't see across  because of the Earths Curvature! Score for REers!

He's right, it's old. "the atmosphere isn't completely transparent" is the official response, just to save you some time.

Why is the atmosphere distorted? And you should still be able to see it with a telescope.

Even if I don't agree with FE theory. I wouldn't venture to assume they were stupid.  It's ignorant to assume so.  Even if one thinks it is an incredibly stupid idea, it doesn't mean all their ideas are..

Your argument is made of fail.

What's sad on your part then is that many of them appear smarter to me than you do, because you put no thought into your argument and reverted to name calling instead.  If they're all idiots, I'd HATE to see how low YOUR IQ is.

Prove it. Have you interviewed all of them? Do you know who every smart person in the world is? No, You haven't and no you don't. I may not agree at all with FE Theory, but if you're going to argue, at least make it an intelligent argument, or go troll the not-so-serious boards... or lurk moar.

I'll let you in on a little secret.  You don't have to believe in something in order to argue for it.  Just ask any lawyer.

gking.  That is what this is _about_

You don't need to be qualified to open your eyes to god's beautiful universe around you.  Open your eyes and see how flat it is.

It doesn't matter how many "qualified" people believed that a heavy object would fall faster than a light one.  Galileo's experiment should have been obvious to a child playing with toys.  The ideological apparatus at the time was the catholic church.

Now we have the same issue.  Nasa may be engaged in purposeful deceipt (there is no space travel) but all of the RE believers are perpetuating this ideology, thus making it hard for you to believe it could be wrong - simply because so many believe it.

But just as in Galileo's day, the truth is observable, and it will come out.  When it does so, and people finally accept the flat earth, we will see amazing new discoveries of science and enlightenment!

Anyone who puts thought into what they're speaking about is qualified.  Alot more qualified than someone who spouts random insults because people don't agree with them.

Nice rhetoric, but the fact remains that the earth is spherical :)

Overlooking the explanatory shortcomings in FE theory (as if there is any such single coherent body of thought) simply because of the obvious fact of the earth appearing flat from a sea-level standpoint is quite irrational. Especially since the intuitive obviousness of the earth's flatness isn't as cut-and-dry as people like Tom Bishop would suggest it is. Contrary to his intuition of the earth being flat, when I am at sea I have an intuitive sense that the earth is spherical. I realise that you will probably claim ideological indoctrination as the explanation; but dissent does not necessarily equal truth any more than conformity does.

At least the FEers on here know more than two adjectives. It makes you look extremely whiny and immature when you describe everything as "stupid".

I beleive the earth is spherical too, the point i was trying to make was that a certain somebody resorted to name calling rather than intelligent conversation.
