My gripe in relation to the fascist tag that I gave was aimed at the American government (look at that, we might even have something in common here) which in it's infinite wisdom see's fit to shamelessly erode the fabric of it's 'free' society by consistantly putting it's own selfish interests ahead of what is actually good for the people that they are supposed to be looking after.

That's a description of "criminal misdirection of resources" and "conflict of interests", not "fascism".

Where did abortion enter into this?  Abortion is not a civil liberty; it's a controversial corollary of a woman's natural right to make decisions about her body and control her own reproductive resources.  The operative word here is controversial; not everybody believes it should be allowed.  The fact that their opinion makes a difference is an indication that the U.S. government is *not* fascist.

Actually, what you said was, this forum has lowered your opinion of human intelligence.  My description of you as ignorant referred to your understanding of statistics, which is obviously lacking if the asinine ideas of maybe a dozen lunatics and fools is sufficient to have a noticeable effect on your estimation of humanity as a whole.

By refuting that which is painfully obvious you are undemining and besmirching the elements of your humanity that define us as what we are and ultimately put us in a different echelon of existance to that occupied by animals.

How can you justify this comment?  Do you also think Kant was undemining and besmirching the elements of his humanity that defined him as what he was?

Firstly may I say that I never once made any remark that condemned the American people as I have no qualms with them.

If the government puts itself in front of it's people, it is simply corrupt. Not fascist. I do agree that the American government is semi-fascist, but for different reasons.

Quote from: "beware_of_the_holy_fools"

I am referring to pro choice related political issues, it seems to me that there are more and more civil liberties being stripped from the public but I don't want this to descend into a pseudo inarticualte political debate as if you fail to recognise the points that I am making or in fact misinterpret them so completely then you are obviously intelectually and politically inert and hence incapable of discussing them with any substance.

Yes indeed clamping down on the freedom of opinion is fasicst. You have claimed that Scotland would do this, which suggests that it is fascist. The last time I was in Scotland, it was not fascist. Since I live in Scotland, I can see that it is not fascist.

Quote from: "beware_of_the_holy_fools"

As for view that differ from mine being insane, well with that sentence you have exposed your own ignorance as I never posited anything of the sort.  If fact I merely stated facts ie you have no proof, you are adament of your position, you won't listen to reason and hence probably maladjusted to contemporary life.  By refuting that which is painfully obvious you are undemining and besmirching the elements of your humanity that define us as what we are and ultimately put us in a different echelon of existance to that occupied by animals.

You are forgetting that many people believe things with no proof - eg, religions for a start. In fact some people believe the Earth was made in six days by God. Since our government hasn't locked these people up, it's quite clear that Flat-Earther's would not be locked up in Scotland.

i connot believe u still think the earth is round. thats like going back in time to the midevil period. the only reason people ever thought the was flat in the first place was because the church didn't believe in change. well u no what? the church also thought that the sun and the other nine planets revolved around the earth but we don't still belive that 2day do we?

For a start I am fed up with being told that I don't understand what fascism is, I have a degree in sociology and social policy and I think it is fair to say I have more than a fair idea of the political nomenclature I choose to use.  I simply don't find it neccessary to articulate that which is painfully obvious and I can't help but feel that for the purposes of argument my comments are being deliberately misconstrued.  I have no time for people who are obtuse and I suppose that is reason enough to bow out of this forum (for now),  my appetite for the hilarious musings of holy fools has been sated for now.  Oh and don't bother with any smooth and winning replies about how you think I have decided not to take part because I am not up to the task because they will not even be read by myself.  Instead take full advantage of this opportunity to feel self satisfied whilst grinning diabolically at your computer screen, you have my blessing you bunch of contrary idiotic timewasting diletentes.

I gotta say, of all the things that impress me about other people, touting one's CV has got to be by far the classiest.  My irrepressable desire to kowtow to authority, regardless of how low they hang on the academic food chain, compels me to take every word you say as God's truth.  How could I ever have doubted you?!

Your verbal abuse is shocking. Profanities instead of arguments reveal your own insecurities about the Round Earth Hypothesis.

The picture of the earth disc is not illustrative of anything. Proponents of the Round Earth Hypothesis cannot adequately explain why the sun appears roughly four times as big in diameter at sunset and claim themselves that the atmosphere causes incredible amounts of visual distortions to achieve this. If we all agree on the incredible amounts of visual distortion caused by the atmosphere, then I cannot see how your image of the earth disc makes any relevant point.

it "appears" to be bigger, but it is not. try this: use sunglasses, and measure it in the sky adn at sunset with the ruler the same distance from your face.

I have a suggestion for a new forum or category.

"Debating the legitimacy of this organization and it's stated goals."

I think your position as stated is false.  This site is not a place for scientific debate of any kind.

It is pseudo-scientific at best, and fraudulent at worst.

The people here claim to be scientific and yet they work to derail any such debate.  They post off-topic nonsense and the moderators allow it, making any debate impossible.  The moderator activity is that of trashing any thread that questions the site's actual purpose.

Rowbatham was proud to preach his bible-literalist views that you base this site on, but he also pretended to be a scientist.

Please add the new forum so that the REAL debate can begin... or are you part of the conspiracy too?

Such discussions would be on-topic in Flat Earth General. There is no need for a separate board.

Please don't necrobump threads in the serious discussion forums unless you have something to add to the discussion and the person that you are responding to is still active here.
