By what means does someone become a moderator?
-Being personally known by the administrator
-Proving themselves to be a conversation worthy intellectual
-Being a FE'er
-A combination of the above

I highly doubt I could ascend to the rank through granted privileges (although I would like to), but even so I'm curious as to how current moderators got there and the implications. For instance, does Daniel personally know theEngineer or Tom Bishop? Can the group of Mods be balanced in the site's belief system?

I suppose a combo of the above, but...Daniel's gone, The FES is near-dead, no-one has the power to grant mod status anymore since Daniel's gone, so no more mods...

Meh...Tom can't hack two shits. My guess is either the mods accidentally gave him global mod powers when they meant to just give him board mod powers, or they gave it to him with full knowledge.

EDIT: I own one of these forums, and after checking things out, I think I know how it came about. It must have been that for some reason, changing the status of a user was granted to board mods(which is stupid), when its supposed to be granted only to admins and global mods. So, Tom, being the SOB that he is, changed his own status.

We should be soon. But we haven't had any contact with Daniel, so he is either working feverishly or pursuing a normal life. Hara, I think, was in contact with him a few weeks ago, and claims to have seen the new board and such, but he wouldn't answer any questions, so it may have been an ego-massage. We've been stalking him, but he isn't replying to anything.

He needs to appoint another admin. Someone that could work on the site when he isn't, and keep a handle on the mod situation (Meaning before all the new mods, back when we had nobody).
