Explain how, on a flat surface, a curved path has the same travel time as a straight one. Also, according to you guys, there is no southern hemisphere. Go figure.

So, according to Tom, nobody noticed when the estimates for arrival were, let's say, 1:00 and the plane arrived at 4:00 or 5:00.  Don't you think SOMEBODY would have asked what the hell had taken the plane so long?  Then when it happens a couple THOUSAND more times, somebody isn't going to see a pattern?

That wasn't the point of the sentence. The point was to mock bishop tom for lacking to refer to his theory correctly. Even if FE were somehow true, the explanation that only the RE definition of the southern hemisphere would observe said results(look back) is absurd, hence my pointing out to him that according to his theory, there are no hemispheres.

Relax. That was a joke.... ;) Ok, fine, I'll quit mocking the conspiracy theory...for now...

1. They are curved in both models, but according to flat earth, one hemisphere should exhibit the OPPOSITE curve. Which would end up rather nastily for flights, as in ending up in the wrong place. That's because FE states that the rotation of the Earth from anywhere in explored territory is either clockwise or counterclockwise; which would lead to one curve. Always. Take a look at this video.

It explains the coriolis effect, and it assumes a round earth. Think about it with a flat earth. They would always curve in one direction. The only way for it to curve in the opposite direction would be to end up on the bottom of the earth, which is impossibly for humans, according to you guys. The only possible explanations would be that the southern hemisphere(RE definition) has a equal and opposite rotation, quite something to imagine tectonically. Not sure how that would be possible...again, I invoke Occam's Razor.

No no no. With planes, it shouldn't, with spheres, it should. Look at the patterns of hurricanes/typhoons/cyclones, in the north and southern hemisphere. They veer left in one hemisphere, right in the other. The coriolis effect. Flat earth says that shouldn't happen.

I thought you said you were a pilot yourself? Let me give you an example. The earth spins, right? We both agree on that, no? OK, now, lets pretend I could magically fix myself in place right above a spot(say, with ballooons), and not be affected by the Earth's rotation or winds, OK? Let's say I start in San Diego. Now lets say I wait for 12 hours. Where am I now? I'm certainly not over San Diego. I'm HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD! And I'm a very new student pilot, and didn't travel long or far. I used visual navigation. What, pray tell, do you fly? They certainly made us study flight plans, at any rate, and explained why the paths were curved.

Great...what? What the heck is the great circle? The only thing I know as a great circle is the equator...

Anyhow, like we said before divito, if a FE pilot assumed an RE, he would either end up in the wrong place, take too much time, or both. And it wouldn't be a freak event, it would happen for all flights except direct east-west flights on the equator. Somebody would notice, right?

1.Indeed it is. It's called a gedankenexperiment, where one temporarily imagines the impossible is possible merely for the purposes of reasoning what would happen. Einstein was one of its greatest users.

2. Very nice. I never got into anything as nice as those.

3. Did you navigate visually, and for how long? If relatively short, and you did, such a flight plan may have been used for simplicity, without bothering with the Coriolis effect. It takes a while to come into effect, and for a short distance, with a small plane like a Cessna, winds have much more of an effect.

Also bear in mind that a flat earth theory also predicts the Coriolis effect, its just that RE says that one hemisphere will have a flipped direction of the Coriolis effect. Which is observed.

A great circle is a straight line on a sphere.  Instead of following latitude or something, they go a straight line.  On a flat map, these lines appear curved.

No I don't, but I do have an example. Hurricanes. They are formed by the Coriolis effect, combined with another force I forget , but look at a hurricanes path. Always curved, yes? That's the deflection you can expect.

Hurricanes aren't really formed by the effect, but their initial rotation is obviously influenced by it.

The Foucault Pendulum, the Coriolis Effect, the Gyroscope, and all other spinning phenomenas upon the earth are not caused by the earth's rotation, but the combined gravitation of the celestial bodies overhead. The weight of the Focault Pendulum for example will be captured by the gravitation of the stars overhead and move as they move, making one full rotation per twenty four hours. The Foucault Pendulum, when aligned with any one star in the sky, will follow it as it makes its path through the sky.

The minute gravitation of the stars also explains why the level of g decreases as one increases his altitude. The stars are pulling the body in, counteracting the upwards acceleration of the earth.
