Wish Me Luck...
« on: December 11, 2007, 10:58:26 PM »
I decided to quit smoking yesterday (not green, just cigarettes.)

So, I need all of your moral support as I try to get over this horrible addiction.

They say nicotine is more addictive than heroin.*

That's all, love Z.

P.S - Respond, A-holes!

You know what is really cool?

Smoking.  I just love the way the smoke fills your lungs warming your insides like a good woman...

Good luck.  I tried earlier this year.  It was going great for months... then I started smoking again.  :( :(  I'm sure you'll have better luck though.

I'm not quitting for good though  ;D

I'm quitting because I need to save money for a holiday. And cigarettes are my biggest expense.

[Shortly after Fran gives up alcohol and cigarettes with her new friend]
Fran: So what's it like then? The fags and booze.
Bernard: Well, to be honest, after years of smoking and drinking, you do sometimes look at yourself and think...
Fran: [Nodding, smiling] Yep...
Bernard: You know, just sometimes, in between the first cigarette with coffee in the morning to that four hundredth glass of cornershop piss at 3am, you do sometimes look at yourself and think...
Fran: [Still nodding] Yep...
Bernard: ... this is fantastic. I'm in heaven.

A better man than I. I would maybe like to quit eventually, but a cigarette in the morning, or right after school or work is pretty much awesome, so...I don't really care right now. Luckily, I don't spend that much on them, so...

I saw this new treatment for smoking addiction on the Science Channel. They give you a shot, and then your body treats nicotine like a disease, so your antibodies or white blood cells or whatever destroys it. That way you won’t be addicted anymore. It’s only worked on 50% of the people so far, but that’s pretty good for getting one shot and being done with smoking.
People with poor depth perception tend to go the extra mile.

Both my parents were smokers. I know what cigarettes can do to your lungs 20 years down the road, so I don't plan on starting.

As long as you enjoy smoking, it's not really bad at all. For you, that is.

Seriously, stop talking about how good smoking is...

It's been 3 days!!!

Although, honestly, I'm not that bothered. I've already saved a lot of money.

Lol, maybe it's level of addiction.... Though i know a girl that did heroin once, they were actually crying the next day as they came down off it because it was so bad.

Synthetic drugs (like heroin, methamphetamines, cocaine, etcetera) are pretty much disgusting. Like, seriously. Just terrifying. They're worse for you than cigarettes, for sure, but I'm pretty sure nicotine is more physically addicting, meaning if you were to stop smoking cigarettes after smoking for a long time, you would get more negative effects than if you stopped injecting heroin, save the coming down period. Mentally/emotionally, it's up for grabs, but "mental" addictions are stupid and pointless and barely addictions in the first place.

My step dad used Chantix to quit.  He couldn't do it without help.

Same here. I smoked for nearly 20 years. Tried lots of different things, but only quit just over a year ago and Chantix is the stuff. After about 3 weeks, I never bought another pack.

I still get urges every once in a while if I get the chance to play at the pub or go out to a bar or restaurant with frineds, but it's tolerable for sure.

Believe me though, it's worth it. I forgot how much more energy I had before, and I never realized just how much money I was burning up. I've got plenty enough to pay all my bills now and still save pennies away a little at a time for my trip next year! :) Rather than trying to figure out what to sell or find side work fixing computers and such to get by. LOL

I still don't believe in the addiction aspect of smoking. Something tells me it's like mass hysteria. Either way, it's unintelligent.

I agree.  I've never smoked a single cigarette in my life.  I kind of like having healthy lungs.  I enjoy breathing.
