sources of information
« on: November 13, 2007, 04:35:39 PM »
If have been reading these forums for a while now, and one thing stands out to me. Most FE believers, believe that NASA is a false agency and the center of some sort of conspiracy, and that any evidence that they have to support the Re is all doctored (like pictures, video's, etc.) But my question is why are the FE believer's sources of information more credible than the RE believer's source of information (NASA).

Because they are from round Earth.

The conspiracy is implies by a Flat Earth. The flat Earth is 'proven' by flawed experiments and made up results.

Tom Bishop claims to be a "prophet".

I don't think he does, but then again, Tom Bishop is a moron.

As an answer to the first post, I'm going to have to answer your question with another question: Why would you think that NASA's information is more credible than ours? I'm not saying we're more credible, but what makes one source more credible than the next, and more importantly, what does it have to do with the debate remotely?

Wait... What are your sources? You have sources? wow this is news to me.

Now, you're just being a dick. You should know the sources available to you (FAQ, Earth: Not A Globe, 100 Proofs, et cetera).

And anyways, the semantics are hardly the point. What makes me less credible than the head of NASA? What makes a bum who got evicted for not paying taxes because he was pushing heroin less credible than you or me or the head of NASA? More importantly, as I said before, what does the supposed credibility of one person over another have to do with a debate? The "credibility" of someone has no effect on whether or not the argument he/she puts out is valid. Try focusing on the argument and not the person presenting it.

ok, how about LIVE tv interviews with astronauts, complete with LIVE images of the round earth in the background? that seems pretty credible to me!

of course FErs would claim it was actually being broadcast from somewhere on the ground...
ever heard of Radio Direction Finders? ANYONE could use them to tell where the signals are REALLY coming from...

But now you're presenting evidence, not the worth of the "credibility" which that person has. If a hobo was broadcasting you LIVE images of the round Earth in the background of his spaceship, what would be the difference?
So, really, credibility has nothing to do with the argument you just presented.

As pointed out, belief in a flat Earth needs a conspiracy to work.

And FE sources are not "more credible." Even if you tried arguing from that aspect, you'd probably end up with a fallacy.

LOL. Do you really need to ask?
Unfortunately in our world today, flat or round, someone pushing heroin is probably more worried about his next high then he is about a flat earth/round earth debate.
