Distortions in Southern Hemisphere
« on: November 04, 2007, 09:37:33 AM »
How do airplane pilots, ships, and other forms of transportation compensate for the distortions in the Southern Hemisphere of the FE?

As the crow flies, the distance from Sydney, Australia to Antananarivo, Madagascar is 6354.2 miles.  On FE, that's equivalent to ~12843.1 miles.  Also notices that The Great Circle Route is not reverse in the Southern Hemisphere as it is in RE.  If the FE were projected on a globe, the shortcut in FE would be a longer journey than the long way in FE.

You make an interesting point.  But I don't think anyone has ever travelled that distance and compared its measure to the geography of FE and RE.

No, but flights would be like 2x as much as their estimates.

How do you know that they don't?

I've personally been on international flights with in-flight delays on the range of hours.

Tom, what is the average for in-flight delays (sorry, times not delays,  because some flight could arrive early or something) in the Southern Hemisphere?  Go look it up and come back.

yeah, the conspiracy magically brainwashes everyone who gets on a plane, and magically changes all their watches, and magically brainwashes everyone on the ground any of the passengers talk to during the flight...(extreme sarcasm)

Duh.

Your point addresses a known lacking in Flat Earth theory.  We don't have an accurate map.  Obviously, until we do, we won't be able to respond to this properly, with anything more than guesses.

We have found out the motive of the conspiracy:

They need the money to fuel the planes to fake Great Circle Routes!

Yes, but still, make a guess for the sake of continuing the thread.

This subject is so old!

Elsewhere in this forum you can find flight schedules for commercial flights in the southern hemisphere, thorough discussions on the merits of the jetstreams that supposedly push airplanes fast enough to accomodate FE proponents, and so on...

There are even detailed discussions on the voyages of James Clarke Ross, who circumnavigated most of Antartica starting in 1841 and carefully plotted his course long before a Flat Earth Society or a NASA existed, so the lack of a map is not due to a lack of reliable information.

Please do not cry for the lack of a map, do it or accept that you cannot because you are wrong.

how about finding flights between two airports in the northern hemisphere and two ariports in the southern hemisphere at equal latitudes with the same type of plane, and noting the flight time?

ie

     A--------------------------------------------------------B          (eg) 30 degrees N

________________________equator___________________________

     A--------------------------------------------------------B          30 degrees S

would there be a difference?

Your point addresses a known lacking in Flat Earth theory.  We don't have an accurate map.  Obviously, until we do, we won't be able to respond to this properly, with anything more than guesses.

Basic methods of charting land masses like early ships established the positions of continents very close to the RE model. The FE model would have to close to accurate to these crude forms of surveying. Thus the FE model would be very close the a distorted RE model. The vast differences in distance cannot be explained by so minute imperfections in the distortions.
If I was asked to imagine a perfect deity, I would never invent one that suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Christians get points for originality there.

Ah, but you stated you didn't know the exact locations and proportions of continents on FE. (Where did people get the idea you were omniscient anyways?)

Come on Trekky, stop giving fuel to the nubs. The FE map is nothing but a polarization and you know that. It illustrates the concept and nothing more.
