where is the edge?
« on: November 03, 2007, 01:45:43 PM »
ok, so if the earth really is flat, then where are the edges?

has anyone ever heard a radio message from a ship saying something like, "we're going over the edge! AAAAAAA...". NO.

has any pilot ever looked down and seen an infinitely deep dropoff? NO.

has any ship in any ocean ever reported hearing a sound like a giant waterfall? NO.

so where is the edge? unless the earth is infinitely wide, it must have an edge, unless it is round.

or maybe earth is a giant cube? no, then it would still have edges, and corners as well! only a round object has no edges!

so if the earth is flat, it must have edges. so, where are they? can any FE'r actually say there is a place on earth where someone can fly or stand and SEE the edge?

Of course not!

It is unknown how far beyond the edge of what we've explored the edge is.  It's assumed it's very far if the ice wall is big enough to hold in the atmosphere.  The easy answer is that the edge is due south, but there's really not much more that can be said about it since it's never actually been seen.  The true size of the disk of the earth remains a mystery.

I completely see your point man, the thing is that you will never be able to get it through these peoples heads. They claim to be intellegent and smart but, these are the same people believing everything written in a "holy document" called the bible. You could take all of them to space to show them the earth was round, but of course they'd say that it was an optical illusion too. They get angry when we ask the same questions over and over again, but the reason is because the last answer you gave us was completely illogical and wrong. Their response to this is going to be "read the FAQ" and or say that the government is guarding a big icewall that goes around the earth(yeah, i read the faq). OK, yeah you've told us that, but wheres YOUR fucking proof ? Do you have pictures to prove this ? of course not. Yet they sit there and think its OKAY to say all our proof is completely untrue and wrong. Anyone that could possibly come to the conclusion that the earth is flat doesn't have much insight into anything.

The edge is at the edge of the disk.  I hope that clears this up for you two.

ok, engineer, where: is the edge in the middle of the atlantic, or the pacific?

or does the earth magically "wrap around" like video games?

you missed my point completely, as always.

next you will scream "conspiracy" and think that ends the argument, so i'll present my counter-argument early:

suppose the edge is in the pacific. dozens of ships and planes pass near that spot. so to keep it a secret, every passenger is handed a form for entering the "round earth conspiracy" and forced to sign it, or they will not be allowed to cross the pacific; and EVERY one of them agrees to lie to everyone they meet for THEIR ENTIRE LIVES and not one of them ever tells anyone about the EXISTANCE of the conspiracy, again for their entire lives, not one passenger refuses, and tells the media?
and if they refuse, they disappear? and no one notices, including ALL their relatives, who would hire PRIVATE investigators?
that's how the "conspiracy" argument goes. totally rediculous, isn't it?

again, my point: WHERE could you go to SEE the edge, or the hypothetical "ice wall"? something that big MUST be visible from a LONG way. so WHERE is it?
if you can't give a specific answer, that can ONLY mean the earth is round. if you can tell of a certain spot, say 45degrees north 35 east, where ANYONE can go and SEE the "ice wall" with their own eyes, i will concede it is flat.

South.  Go all the way south.  That's where the ice wall is.  South.

let me simplfy: round earthers belive the ENTIRE earth has been explored. there ARE no unexplored places, except maybe in africa. and NOT ONE EXPLORER has ever seen your "ice wall". therefore, it DOES NOT EXIST.

is that simple enough for you?

oh, south? in the CENTER of antarctica? a place people HAVE explored WITHOUT finding an edge or ice wall? look it up, there is a permanent scientific post there: and if you are right, there IS no south pole!

Somewhere.

What about it.

How do you know?

has any ship in any ocean ever reported hearing a sound like a giant waterfall? NO.
There are many giant waterfalls on Earth.

so where is the edge? unless the earth is infinitely wide, it must have an edge, unless it is round.
Somewhere.

or maybe earth is a giant cube? no, then it would still have edges, and corners as well!
The Earth could be a cube. Who knows?

so if the earth is flat, it must have edges.
A flat infinite plane has no edges.

so, where are they? can any FE'r actually say there is a place on earth where someone can fly or stand and SEE the edge?
Somewhere.

No, on the FE all the way south is not in one place.  It forms a ring.

my point HAS been made: people HAVE gone as far south as possible, and can't go any farther south...because earth is round!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica

there is land there, and it's possible to sail all the way around it without hitting an ice wall, because it doesn't exist!

Yeah, so I can throw it into the garbage.

oh, south? in the CENTER of antarctica?
Who said the center of Antarctica is the only south?

a place people HAVE explored WITHOUT finding an edge or ice wall?
I see tones of edges of Antarctica in various photos.

look it up, there is a permanent scientific post there: and if you are right, there IS no south pole!
In FE, South pole is underneath the North pole.

ok, let's do a "thought experiment".

2 people take off in 2 planes: 1 at the south tip of africa, and 1 from the south end of south america. both then fly south. (we will ignore fuel limits) what will happen?

-FE'r's answers: (depending on who you talk to)
1) both will fly in opposite directions, till they reach the ice wall and can go no further
2) both will keep going forever and ever and...

RE'rs answer:
they will be going toward each other, and meet near the south pole.
if they then kept going, each would pass the spot where the other started.
if they kept going even farther...they would meet again at the north pole!

so...which is true?

i personally believe their claim that the earth, and ONLY the earth, is flat, is totally rediculous.
oh yes, what are their claims for the movements of venus, mars, jupiter, etc. in the sky?

oh yes, speaking of fuel, FE'rs claim the planes going from africa to south america were fooled by false data from gps controlled by conspirators into thinking it was shorter that it actually was.

so how did they fool pilots BEFORE GPS WAS INVENTED?
and how do they fool the PLANES into thinking they used only 200 miles worth of fuel, not 78,000 (the entire circumference of the flat earth)?

let me re-state my last question:

if the flat earth model was correct, then the south end of africa and the south end of south america would be 24,000 miles apart.

but in the ACTUAL WORLD WE LIVE IN, a plane can make this trip in only a few hours, using only 300 miles worth of fuel!

so you think the pilots are conspiring to fool the passengers on the plane, and all their watches, and their personal senses of time, including their circadian rhythms?

besides, only 1 plane has ever had enough fuel to make a trip that long, and it was a unique plane with only 2 people, intented for a non-stop around the world flight.

just how would I make YOU think that 48 hours was actually 2 hours? hypnosis? drugs? MIB neuralizers? magic?

You are making assumptions about the true layout of the flat earth.  The simple truth is, we don't know the distribution of land on the flat earth.
