In my honest opinion, nobody actually believes in FET; its proponents are using it merely as a vehicle for debate. Debating in favor of something you know to be untrue is a great mental exercise.
I have to disagree with you on that one 100% You may see it as a great mental exercise, and that's fine and well if you're that easily amused, but name one instance where any progress was gained by arguing a point that you know to be false. There are plenty of real mysteries out there for people to solve...and that's what all the smart people are focusing on. The idiots are the ones who would rather argue that the earth is flat. I mean, lets face it..this has absolutely no benefit for anyone. The arguments are just dumb. I would be insulted to try to argue with one of these world class freaks
Have you never heard of a debate club? Nearly every school on the planet (whether it be flat or round!) has one. Guess what happens in those clubs? People debate shit. And they are usually given the side *opposite* their own beliefs to uphold. Why? Because, as a great man once said, "debating in favor of something you know to be untrue is a great mental exercise."

That's kind of the point, yeah. That and it's really fun to watch a bunch of people who think they're physicists come on here and try to debate a really obvious point of view, only to use points that are incredibly wrong, and get their asses owned.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about this site when it suddenly popped in my head just now, so I came back not expecting much activity. Glad I was wrong; it's quite hysterical watching these asshats get all worked up into a lather.
(BTW, I logged into this account from BugMeNot on November 08, the posts before then were not "me." I'm far too lazy to actually register. I hope that doesn't get this account deleted, but I figured I'd let the cat out of the bag in case people checked "my" older posts and were confused by inconsistencies.)
