Theres a difference between discovering that things fall down and the concept of gravity.

Ah... you mean the theory of Universal Gravitation.  I figured that "The natural place of things with earth in them is on the ground" is a reasonably good theory of gravity.

1) Why spherical? Does it not work with, say, a parabolic lens? Also, how can you tell that it is more than 32 miles across? Are there markers?

My question, is how did you get this "Why spherical" thing from "special lens."  After all, Jaxson said "special."

A question to erasmus then:

If you do not adhere to the idea that earth is flat, why do you defend the idea? I myself find the idea laughable, but i also accept the fact that I could, someday be proved wrong, just like my reservations about the existence of a divine being could also be proved wrong, and when that happens i will be happy to accept that beings teachings into my life. But anyway. My question is why do you defend? I may be getting the way you speak wrong, but you seem to be one of FE's most eloquent and plausable proponents. Is it because you are interested in the mechanics and physics behind this alternate theory? or is it because of some other factor that i havent considered?
