Yes but using very precise calculations he was able to determine that it was indeed gouda and flat in his book Mars not a globe:
 "I looked up and it kinda looked flat so I figured that it was, but I wanted to be sure so I asked my mom and she said" whatever you say, honey" so that was all the confirmation I needed, and then Using a very precise Smell-O-Scope I was able to SMell that it was indeed gouda which I knew all along"
