WoW, just WoW...
promoting illiteracy is one of the worst crimes against humanity that i can think of. I would rank it up there with gang rape and slavery. oppress ppl's minds...
the only good thing i can see coming from this is to strengthen the Church and family. and by proxy strengthen ppl's morals.
as i have stated before i'm atheist, so i don't actually believe the strengthening of the Church is a good thing; but i do believe the Church as a whole teaches good morals so i can still justify its existence.
If illiteracy was allowed to flourish, society would decay and we would be back to plowing our land by hand and burning witches @ the stake. only the elite would be knowledged and that elite would reign over everyone else. as others have stated, we would go back to the Middle Ages.
I don't know about you, but i don't want to wash my clothes down by the river. I don't want to eat food i had to slave in a field to grow.
due to the rampant spread of knowledge via literacy we have all of our modern day conveniences. we have advances in science, medicine, and technology. i'm discussing things with a man in Africa, half the planet away, and he is responding within seconds. how would this be possible with illiteracy was as rampant as wildfire?
Capitalism isn't perfect. Neither is Democracy. Corruption, i'm sure, abounds; but we will always have corruption. but if we are more knowledged then we have a better chance of fighting it. We can advance ourselves and take the corrupt mans place. how could we do that if only an elite were educated? with knowledge comes power. and ppl do not release power on their own accord.
If only the elite could read or write what chance do they have to better themselves? as it is now i have an opportunity to advance myself with public schools. i can dedicate myself and advance that knowledge further and in turn reap better benefits. take away that from the common man and we would be back to slavery before you know it.
I don't claim to know the answer to increasing family values. I don't' know how to strike the fear of God into ppl.
I do know taking the ability to read from the masses isn't going to help them read and study the Bible more often though.
I think family values should be taught @ home. I am a moral man even though i'm not a God fearing man. I'm still a good little boy even though i now know there is no Santa Claus. This was taught to me @ home, and i will take it to my grave. i don't see how illiteracy would help that @ all.
