Right now it's 9:10pm in rainy old England, and the sky is pitch black. Why is it 1:10pm in Los Angeles and the city is bathed in daylight? Or does the goverment have some giant lens which refracts the sunlight away to give the impression of time zones?
I only ask this because the time zone question in the FAQ didn't provide an answer except "we don't believe it".
