Prove me wrong
« on: July 17, 2007, 01:19:52 PM »
I made a topic before but it got moved to the angry ranting forum. I apologize, I was just pissed because I saw a flat earth group on Myspace and the people on there were REALLY stupid.

But anyway, my five points:

1: Ships slowly dissappear over the horizon. If the earth was flat, this would not happen.
2: There are different climates across the globe. If the earth was flat, the climate would be practically the same everywhere.
3: There are seasons.
4: There are different time zones.
5: There are thousands of pictures that show the earth being ROUND.

There, now prove me wrong, and I will go away quietly.

Oh joy. Well, how a deist explanation, then?
Ignoring the truth does not make it go away, it just makes you ignorant and disempowered.

Can you change reality by inventing new names for ordinary things?

Welcome. May I point you to the RE Primer? See the link in my signature below. It's 70 pages (in the next version due this week) of analysis in support of the Round Earth Theory. I believe that you'll find it useful. Thanks.

Wow. Too bad I'm a christian.

1:Explain to me exactly how our eyes play tricks on us, and maybe I'll consider your point seriously.
2:I know, he makes different climates by creating a round earth where the sun doesn't hit every part evenly.
3:Yes,there are four seasons... what does that have to do with anything?
4:Again, he causes this by making a round earth where the sun doesn't hit every part evenly.
5:Ok... do you have proof of this? Or is that just another baseless assumption to support what you believe?

I guess you didn't prove me wrong, did you?

Again, if anyone here wants to step up and defend thier beliefs by proving me wrong, please do so. I'm not going to waste my time reading through pages of crap. If I'm to be proved wrong, it's going to happen right here, right now.

C'mon people, is this all you got?!  ::)

The bible also says that it's a sin to eat fish. Do you eat fish? You better stop, or God is going to get you!

Where exactly does it say this?

Can't you send me someone smarter than this kid?  :P

Daniel 4:11
Matthew 4:8
Revelation 1:7
Isaiah 11:12
Revelation 7:1
Job 38:13
Jeremiah 16:19

And the Bible says not to eat anything of the sea that has no scales or fins. So eating fish is okay. Oyster, lobsters, and shrimp will have you sent to Hell though.

See these threads which cover this issue extensivelly and which show that the natural laws of perspective are gravely misunderstood my Mr. Rowbotham and that they cannot explain the sinking ship phenomenon (or better yet, of the sinking skyline phenomeon).

You will find that in all instances FEers took off without responding to the rebuttals which destroyed their arguments. You will also find that Tom repeats himself endlessly, despite the fact that his answers have been demolished as much as anything ever could be. Enjoy.

Oh and Daniel just says things for shits and giggles, don't think he's serious.

It is true. Somewhere in Isaiah I think, it talks about the "roundness" or "circle" of the earth. In Aramaic, the word can also be used as sphere, ball, globe, roundness, circle etc. etc.

Also, about the fish. In Aramaic, there was no word to represent the English version of "better" or "worse". Therefore, to say something was better than something else, you had to say that one thing was "good" and the other was "bad". This is why the Bible can sometimes be translated into an interpretation which sounds far more harsh than was intended.

For example (not true, just to show how it works):

English: Chicken is better than fish to eat.

Translated to Aramaic:   Chicken is good to eat. Fish is bad to eat.

You can see how translations can distort interpretations of ancient texts.

First off the bible was written about 1500 years ago. it has been translated into so many different languages. and unless you know how to read Aramaic.....then how do you know wuts really written in the "The Bible" oh....and the Bible isnt meant for "literal" translation.....think of the bible as the first ever self-help-book with little hints and tips on how to live your life.

Funny thing about the bible... its kinda scary...

Genesis chapter 19--old guy (Lot) lets two strangers he knows to be angels or messengers of the lord in his house. The crowd of the city (the city being Sodoma) go and knock on Lot's door. Lot tells them to "go away. You can rape my two virgin daughters if you just go and leave me and the two dudes alone." (paraphrased. You can read the actual text genesis 19:8 )

Noble old man, right there. Aparrently, though, hes a paragon of virtue, as he's like the only guy who was saved when God smote the city. Should we all offer up our virgin daughters to mobs so as to get a little peace and quiet? It appears to be an easy ticket to heaven...

The answer is a resounding "OF COURSE NOT." We should definately protect the two strangers, but at our OWN expense, not that of another. Thats like, in the 10 commandments--love thy neighbor as thyself. If you interpretted the bible completely literally at every step, this world would not be nearly as happy is it is (and, noting the unhappiness of the world, thats saying something).

Anyone want to explain to me why Lot is such a holy and virtuous man?

I don't question the teachings and morals of the bible. But you understand that, while it is a book, and a damned good book, it is not definitive. There is the tora, the Koran, the Bhagavad Gita, there are creeds from here to the end of the earth that stress the same values as the bible. All that differs is who tells them.
