Bridge constructors part of conspiracy too?
« on: July 09, 2007, 05:54:43 AM »
Me read once that nowadays while designing bigger bridges engineers consider roundness of Earth. Does it mean they all belong to conspiracy too?

No, it just means that they're bad engineers.

What evidence do you have to support your outlandish claim?

None.

This is a good point. Bridge construction has to be extremely accurate. If the roundness of the Earth was taken into consideration, on some of the larger bridges, the bridge would be off by a far amount.

We up here in Canada built one from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island. At 12.9 kms long they definately made compensation for the curvature of the Earth.

Haha Tom is so funny. He can't be serious, no one is that stubborn or dumb.

Engineers build bridges under the assumption that the earth is round.

It's not.

Your response is entirely devoid of evidence, as usual.

Yet the bridges get from point A to point B properly and according to calculations, whereas, under the flat earth model, if they compensated for a roundness of the Earth that wasn't there, the bridges would not do so.

Explain?

You won't get a response. He thinks that he has won the battle by posting that, and now won't come back.

Using Rowbathan's calculations, if a bridge were to span 6 miles, it would have to have a curve of 24 feet (right?). If the Earth were flat, the bridge would come into contact with the ground below the rest of the road, which is not what happens in real life.

Me think it would have been better for Tom if he'd just said they all bribed by conspiracy like always.

If the bridge builders WERE in on the conspiracy, they would only SAY they compensate for the earths curvature. If the earth was flat and the engineers were indeed accounting for the curvature, the bridge would "sag" over sizable distances. Otherwise, if the earth was flat, they would HAVE to be in on the conspiracy (so they would say...) and not account for the earths curvature.

I think Tom lost this argument before it even began.
