This topic is really entertaining.

I don't know how to soundproof a single room, but I do know a way to soundproof every room. Take something skinny and sharp (like a toothpick or screwdriver) and stab yourself hard in the ear. Trust me, it works.

Pay attention Fern, MC was being a jerk-off but atleast he was being a clever and original jerk-off.

Fern, you fail at even being a jerk-off.

That stuff is for a car
And?  Does sound know when its in a car?

Its just, from what i can see it looks like the shit you put on door seals and floorboards to reduce vibration. I need like a lead curtain, or some thick ass material, in bulk, that is cheap.

Did you ever do what rentacow said?

Go to second hand stores & garage sales and see if they have some of the egg-carton foam mattress pads. I had 2 double bed sized pads I strung up on my garage doors and they worked fine. Staple or (if needed, for metal, etc) hot glue it to walls, doors, garage doors, windows (just kidding) or what ever. It insulates the sound and even acts like acoustic foam.

The foam/Egg crate thing doesn't work the way people say it does. Its a myth. Acoustic foam or egg crate material will only reduce the reverb or resonating sound that is produced. This is good for recording in that it reduces the amount of sound bouncing back at you from the wall that you have the foam on. It will in no way stop my neighbors from calling the cops. This stuff does my make vocal booth (Aka Laundry room) sound fantastic.

The ideal thing to do is build a room inside of a room. I am not financial willing to do that in a house that i'm renting and i dont want to take up that much space anyway. I really just need to be pointed to a place where i can get thick ass material in bulk for cheap. Most pro grade dB blocking material is $200 for a 5 foot by 6 foot sheet, that isnt happening.

The egg crate foam helps keep the noise down for me. What about cheap Plexiglas set up ~3 inches from the wall. This would provide an air buffer between the wall which would reduce the sound transmission pretty good, like a drum barrier wall. You would then need the egg crate foam because it would probably cause some pretty bad acoustics (I don't know for sure.).

Its getting too loud guys. Cops keep coming...

I was going to post this on dark resolve but the board is down right now.

I need a cheap method for sound proofing my garage. I know alot about this but what i really need is some links to padding or foam or whatever. All the sites ive seen have shit that is $300 per 5'x6' sheet. Id like to sound proof 1/3 of a 3 car garage for less than $100. Ill hang layers of carpet and carpet pads if i have to if it will work and is cheap enough.

Anyone know where i cant get padding and foam? links please.

I took it down.

As for soundproofing, go to a medical supply store, like one of those old lady mart things, and look for the bedding foam crate padding. You can purchase it in strips, but often times they have extra laying around. Works like the high-dollar recording studio shit that people spend too much on...
My problem with his ideas is that it is a ridiculous thing.

Genius. PURE, undiluted genius.

Ohhhhhh... But that won't stop the neighbors from calling the cops... Try using the screwdriver on the neighbors... Or the cops.
