TheEngineer is not a pilot.

This stuff about fake mages... as far as I'm aware the engineer was known to be a pilot when he first got here. Why would he pretend? To gain credibility? Doesn't strike me as the type. And many of us have no scientific experience, but it doesn't matter does it?

I cannot reasonably believe him to be a pilot without adequate proof, not by your own testament.  IF he presents athis adequate proof, then I will believe him.

I don't think it matters if you believe him or not. Unless you can present some plausible reason why he might feel compelled to lie about being a pilot, and why I might lie to protect him, you have no grounds for argument, and the matter is settled.

You can. And I can say I don't believe you. But without any evidence to back myself up it is impossible for me to make any positive assertions about the truth or falsity of your claims. So it really doesn't help us much here. That's why unless you have some reason to believe that Engineer is not a pilot other than simple skepticism it doesn't mean anything. Lack of purpose does not indicate that my query lacks value.  Other than that, my query does have a reason besides skepticism.  Consider this scenario: If TheEngineer is not a pilot, then his 'expertise' has no merit in support of any theories debated in FES.

Your query lacks any basis in the first place. You have no compelling reason to doubt whether he is a pilot, since nothing he has done or said has indicated any differently (aside from him 'refusing to demonstrate his piloting skills. Which is a dumb reason to begin with). You expressed needless (but harmless) skepticism at the beginning of the thread, and when he provided evidence dismissing your skepticism -evidence which you again had no reason to doubt- you again accused him of lying. This is called 'denial'.
