FE tides
« on: June 19, 2007, 07:36:15 AM »
From the FAQ:

The tides exist due to a slight see-saw effect on the earth. As it goes back and forth, the water rushes to the side that is lower. Note, this is a very slight wobble. Remember, these wobbles are created by very minor earthquakes. They keep the tides in check. Notice that large earthquakes result in large tides or "tsunami

what keeps these earth quakes regular? im almost certain earth quakes are not a "regular" occurance.

The tides are not caused by a wobble. I'm not sure where that idea came from. The tides on FE are caused by the gravitation of the Sun and Moon.

Really? I don't see how FE can explain the second high tide daily with the Moon is far away. It seems to me that FE has a real problem here.

Because you answered your rhetoric question with your own stupidity.

Gravity is not the same phenomenon as Gravitation.

In scientific terminology gravitation and gravity are distinct. "Gravitation" is the attractive influence that all objects exert on each other, while "gravity" specifically refers to a force which all massive objects (objects with mass) are theorized to exert on each other to cause gravitation. Although these terms are interchangeable in everyday use, in theories other than Newton's, gravitation is caused by factors other than gravity. For example in general relativity, gravitation is due to spacetime curvatures which causes inertially moving objects to tend to accelerate towards each other. Another (discredited) example is Le Sage's theory of gravitation, in which massive objects are effectively pushed towards each other.

Ah, proof. Even Einstein believed that gravity causes the curvature, not the other way around. Reference the Paul M Brown article.

That's merely a definition of two words on wikipedia you could've made up your own nonsense and then submit it as a reliable form ofproof

No, Albert believed that mass bent space-time

Can you find a quote of Einstein that contradicts the Brown article? I'd be happy to share it with my friend. Thanks.

Just reference please an experiment that proved the gravity and gravitation aren't the same thing.

'Gravity, if it exists as a force, causes gravitation, ie the acceleration between two objects. Gravity is the Cause, gravitation is the effect

Gravity is the cause, Gravitation is the effect. This is in a dictionary I have on my bookshelf.

NB I thought I already posted in this thread. Did my post get removed or am I losing my memory?

Because every effect needs a cause. Things can't fly to an object of mass because they fly to an object of mass...if that makes sense...:S

I think I see your point, but I wonder if you not using your conclusion to reach your conclusion (circular reasoning).

Not trying to use circular reasoning. I'm trying to make my point that gravity and gravitation are seperate things, in the same way electricity makes a bulb glow, but electricity is not the same thing as light
