Well no, I'm right. You're just ignorant.

However most of the time the info is not an 'answer', it is a debate where either a) we let it die because it was clogged up with people going "you're all crazy I have seen a launch dumbo" or b) it's an unfinished debate. ie, we never reached an answer. There is c); the debate was finished. Usually because noone can explain it in the FE universe so RE wins the point. Although occasionally us Round Earthers find ourselves out matched.

i've got it!! if the earth is flat thus having no gravity, i could theoretically fire a high calibre bullet from the earth's surface, and it would simply carry on upwards as it's speed exceeds that of the earth, since a high calibre bullet is quite capable of breaking earth orbit past the atmosphere were it not for gravity, i'd never see it again.

In reality, firing any calibre shell from the planet's surface will always return due to the effect of gravity, NOT ATMOSPHERE before you say that

SparteX wins.

Except that the earth is accelerating, so you lose.

Oh come on, his is too easy. The UA would counter act this effect. HAd you any brains you would realise this. It may not be a plausible scientific theory on every minute level, but it explains that.

With the correct math i could calculate the time it would take for it to return to earth under the influence of gravity. Provide me with the current speed the earth is travelling and it's rate of accelleration and i can calculate the time it would take to return to earth un aided by gravity but by the earth catching up to it.

If the earth is accellerating we'd be feeling much heavier every day, like when a car speeds up.

if the earth was catching up with the bullet, it would seemingly float down to earth slowly. not at several thousand miles per hour  ::)

The acceleration due to 'gravity' is 9.8m/s^2.

The acceleration of the earth is 9.8m/s^2.

Good luck.

what a coincidence. The acceleration of earth just happens to correspond to the earth's actualy gravitation, Who'da thought [sarcasm]

you still havn't prooved my other fact wrong. Acceleration causes inertia, do you feel like you weigh more every day?

Why would you think the numbers would be different?

The acceleration is constant, therefore the force we feel is constant.

Constant acceleration doesn't cause that effect. Oh and yes, I was Mrs More. What's thou?

yes, it does. Clearly none of you drive, accelerating at a constant rate from 20mph to 60mph causes inertia.

F=m*a

Mass is constant, acceleration is constant.  How is force not?

Not for me when I'm in a car... In a train or plane yes, but the acceleration isn't constant. And it's over a very short span. And it's more powerful than the average car. UA acceleration is infinite- it would not cause inertia.

If you're accelerating at a constant rate in a car, do you feel more and more inertia as you get faster, or do you feel the same amount as long as you're accelerating at that same rate?  ???

Not being a smart-ass, this is an honest question.

The acceleration of the earth is 9.8m/s^2.

Why do FE'ers even need to postulate the universal accelerator?  Every single observation that FE'ers bring up in the discussion of the UA can be explained by universal gravitation.  The UA doesn't help explain any observations that we don't currently understand, so why do FE'ers insist on it so much?

The earth wasn't made for our numbers, it's just a fact that the UA would push the earth upwards at 9.8m/s2.

Especially since I can measure the acceleration of the FE at home.

SparteX, the earth would be accelerating due to UBSA (Universal Bull Spit Acceleration) so it would eventually catch up with the bullet.

CAN WE MOVE ON!? Nobody has qualified to receive the one thousand dollar reward yet. And PLEASE don't make me bother my Australian friends by asking them to take a picture of Crux. Did I read somewhere that Alaska and Australia (along with Antarctica) don't exist on a flat earth? This sounds like continents-whose-names-begin-with-"A" discrimination. Perhaps we should all take a look at www.societyagainstdiscriminationtowordscontinentswhosenamesbeginwitha.com.

Especially since I can measure the acceleration of the FE at home.
O RLY? Thats neat, because I can measure the force of gravity at home too. That argument really threw me for a whirl. Great job!

Now why don't you take a crack at answering the question in the OP.

Yep, it sure is neat.  Plus, all I need to do it is a stopwatch, a ruler, and something to drop.

Why can't I see the southern cross? I live on lattitude line 47, ~500 feet above MSL, in the northern hemisphere of planet earth.

(Their, I made the question straight forward, detailed and easy to understand for the FE folks.)

Disclaimer: no prooof of purchase nessicary to play. Offer only valid to FE believers. Must be 18 or older to play.

Because the earth is a sphere.  When do I get the money?

Was this not the answer to the OP?

You would get the exact same answer on a round earth with mass bending spacetime.

So what are you trying to prove? That the earths gravity constant is 9.8m/s^2, and if the earth were accelerating at 9.8m/s^2 it would feel the same?
