You're Eastern European, right?  I'm afraid you simply don't understand our consumer-driven economy.  Hype is EVERYTHING.

The cell phone market is a tightly controlled one that keeps a tight leash on their customers. While I will never own an iPhone, their product is a giant leap towards freeing that market. But we're still nowhere near the customer freedom that a capitalist environment should provide.

Reason's why iPhone sucks:

- GSM only.
- AT&T lockup
- Apps can only be written using the safari engine with Javascript and Ajax, both of which are pretty hackabe.

In order for the iPhone to reach it's fullest potential as a "revolutionary" device, it needs to be able to embrace everything as far as networks and carriers are concerned. Sure, a device with WiFi capability is nice, but take a look at AT&T. They have a 3G and EDGE network, and are GSM. Now, try and load a web page. Reports indicated that loading the Yahoo! homepage took 100 seconds on the EDGE network. Now, if the iPhone wasn't locked to AT&T and the shitty EDGE system and could instead utilize, say, Verizon's EVDO technology, I'm sure that same webpage would take at the most half of that time.

GSM may be the world standard, and that's fine, but what if Apple decides later on down the road "Let's unlock the phone and broaden our audience". Good, but looks like Verizon (and I think one other company too) is out of the picture unless Verizon adopts a shittier network system (which is never going to happen, Verizon is all about top quality and latest tech and the only phone that has GSM and sold by Verizon is the Blackberry Worldwide Edition, and it's not even running on Verizon's network in Europe, but sub-contractor companies leased by Verizon), or until the iPhone adopts CDMA and EVDO into it's design.

Apple has a habit of locking things to what they prefer, instead of what would be best for the consumer, which is going to hinder them down the road.

Look at the iPod: Took them long enough to develop iTunes for Windows and give thier mp3 player the ablity to sync with Windows. And look at how much they profit from that move. I still say they should do the same thing with Mac OS X, but I don't think it will happen, and the only incarnation of it happening was and still is OSx86, a version hacked to run on beige box x86 machines. Maybe they will learn from the iPod and put the CDMA and EVDO technologies in the phone and unlock it for the consumer to decide.

People buy Apple products cause they have no desire, or lack the intelligence in which to think for themselves. Apple users are primarily sheep and will always be that way. They are the emo/gothic conformity whiners of today's generation in electronics.

I still havent quite figured out why you need a cellphone/radio/internet/whatevertheelsetheystickinthoselittlepeicesofmachines, All in one.. I mean yeah sure a cell phone is great, ya run out of gas, call homegirl, homegirl isnt home, call boyfriend, boyfriends cheating, call mom, get a lecture and she finally comes and gets you..
But why on earth cant people wait till they get home to get on the internet? Now Ill admit I use txt messaging quite a bit and when I had sprint I even used MSN on my phone.. but erm, why is it a need? Why are you going to pay 500 dollars for a phone when you dont have to ? but like someone said earlier, these marketing people arent exactly aiming for people who CANT AFFORD these devices, I just still find it crazy... I dont care if I had the money to buy one of those.. I dont want a phone thats smarter than me..

Now love, you are selling yourself short. A phone is not smarter than you are. LOL.

I think the Iphone is just another reason people give themselves to delude themselves into thinking they are in charge of their destinies. "I have an Iphone! I am big time now!"

Unfortunately, having the Iphone ensures you are tracked at all times, can be spammed to based in your usual locations, and will be broke all the time to cover the cost of maintenance, and social-networked uselessness.

I am sorry, but when phones started allowing the blue-tooth using idiot on the subway to loop Justin Timberlake music videos at full volume, humanity reached the end of its evolution. :P

Sure that is part of their market, but hardly the whole. How many people did you know to have a Razor, theawsomestphoneevar? Those are the people getting the iPhone + the apple fanclub.
